I would say a fear of rabies is pretty rational, it's a fucked up and horrible disease
I get your fear. But if you're nearish a hospital, the treatment makes your chance of getting rabies basically 0%. Honestly I've been bitten or scratched the needed treatment and vaccine on four separate occasions already. It's not bad at all.
Can you get a precautionary vaccine? I know people who've done this.

by what animals?
Dogs and cats. Sometimes strays, and sometimes negligent owners. If there's ANY fear of the animal having rabies, the doctor will insist on getting the vaccine to be safe.
I've always had a no fear feeling with animals, and I've volunteered with animal stuff. I'm probably a bit unlucky, but petting every fecking pet one sees is likely to cause some mishaps.

I once had a doctor who told me that maybe I should just wait and see if I developed any symptoms before bothering to get a rabies vaccine...
Literally tell his office or report him, cuz that would get you killed.
It was years ago in a different country, and it was a woman, but yes, truly galaxy brained medical advice.
Women are just as capable as men of committing malpractice
I can fix this for you but you wont like it.
Biker gear. At all times biker gear. A dog wont be able to bite through a cool as hell pair of leather pants, you are now immune to rabies and or zombies.
You now have to live in style and comfort like a goddamn 90s super hero.
Bonus. You are now protected from minor injury so you can try to do super hero shit and might pull it off. You wouldn't want to risk it but none of the knives I ever carry are well sharpened enough to cut through motorcycle gear. Least wise not in the time it would take soemone to smash my head with a helmet. So don't do it. But maybe think about just becoming a super hero.
do you get any other bad thoughts like these? Asking cos I have OCD and I would get fears that would just keep manifesting themselves inhibiting my ability to do stuff like cooking or eating. It's not too bad now i'm on meds but if this is something that impacts your life then maybe seek help.
I got freaked out by a baby squirrel once that was sitting in the middle of the sidewalk on my way to work. It didn't turn and run the second I got near so it piqued my interest. I slowly moved closer, baffled and curious, and then suddenly when I was no more than two feet away it darted forward and started crawling up my pant leg. I panicked and shook it off (and felt kinda bad about it hoping I didn't hurt it) but it was one of the most bizarre experiences of my life. And I've seen some fucked up shit.
I had a similar thing happen with a squirrel once I agree it's stressful as this squirrel acting odd is a sign it's sick and I didn't want to catch whatever it had
It's a normal hypochondria fixation. Uh watch out for that, it can get pretty rough depending on the severity of the anxious disorder around it.
What effect does this have because if you're just avoiding people and animals that bite you that's pretty normal behavior
yeah no rabies in the UK. The fact it's an island means that it's relatively easy to prevent rabid animals from crossing over compared to say a land border
