The comments have affirmed my utter contempt for liberals. I know it's a cliche to say this, but they really are sheep.

Are we at the same stage as Chinese activists in the late 1910s who were finally figuring out that electoralism (at least by itself) is completely useless?

But what does that say to all of us. How are we supposed to trust that it's nonbinding so it's fine? Democrats don't have a good track record on following through on progressive promises

If you believe in defunding the police, you'd never sign your name to something like this

So the fact that it's non-binding isn't the thing I'm concerned about. It's about this failure of a party doing anything they can to obstruct progress and make it clear that they don't care about what's best for the majority of the country

It's almost like this specific amendment, in isolation, is not really what people are reacting to

What would it even mean for it to be non binding? That the federal executive gets to decide whether to actually cut funding to places that defund police? Because if that's what it means, making it non-binding is arguably worse. That means they'll get whatever PR victory they want to, deflate protests, and still watch it be enforced potentially by Biden and definitely by whatever fascist demagogue replaces him.
