Oh cool I can't wait to choose between to lazily written factions that both suck for the 5th time
I never even do the imperial or stormcloak storylines anymore. They’re boring af anyway
I really feel like The Dragonborne's canon response should be to tell both factions to STFU. What does it matter which group of nobles will be taxing Skyrim's peasants a generation from now when you need to stop Ragnarok from happening?
Skyrim fails on a basic fantasy wish fulfillment level by not being able to say "fuck you" to both factions and become King of Skyrim yourself. And it wouldn't be hard for them to do so. The Blades, the personal army of the Dragonborn, are already there. That thing where you take over the bases of the other faction? That could be done, but the base is now full of Blades.
slightly updating the same engine since fucking MORROWIND in 2002. even Valve, the absolute kings of stretching shit out, didn't use the source engine for THAT long.
Even fucking call of duty got a new game engine for Modern Warfare 2019 after using source engine derivatives for practically forever (though Black ops: cold war, the game released after MW2019, is on the old engine lol).
Even Gran Turismo got a new engine for GT Sport in 2017, and they'd being using the same engine (though not a source engine derivative thank god, imagine a source engine car racing game) for 4 massage games since 2004. (Gran Turismo 4, 5, 6 and PSP).
How the fuck is this possible for such a large company that makes so much money, to still be using the same engine since two thousand and fucking two?
IW 8.0 took 5 years to make.
Also "new engine" means exactly the same thing as the way Bethesda uses it. IW 8.0, as far as I can tell, is still based on and partially retrofitted from the older engine.
To even pretend that Creation is the same as Gamebryo is just straight up false if you've ever used it at all.
lol isn't Source a GoldSrc engine derivative? which is itself a Quake engine derivative?
Mom can we have a next gen game engine for our sandbox game?
We have the next gen engine at home.
[Next Gen Engine At Home] Morrowind commands work in Fallout 4.
That's exactly what will happen lol. At this rate they have more money than god, surely they can afford a professional unity license at the very least.
At least unreal engine lol. Even small budget games like Ace Combat got unreal engine licenses after developing in house engines became too expensive with modern games.
they own id, they can just use idTech 6, presumably without much in the way of licensing at all
You know what, I'm gonna say it. Unity is better than Bethesda's engine.
Unity was always a fine engine, gamers complain about it because the bad rep from when Steam was getting flooded with shit games and literal asset store flips and the Unity splash screen was all over that shit.
It is far better than what 80% of the industry could do on their own, the other 20% are doing incredibly niche stuff or are AAA studios with special requirements.
Genshin proves a large scale single player RPG is possible.
On hindsight, maybe Unity charging extra to remove the splash screen wasn't a great idea on their part.
struggling to develop or procure
They're not even trying to do anything with the IP at this point. Innovation in video games is dead.
God, these comments always make me realise that a vast majority of gamers have never made anything in their lives.
This didn't soak up Dev time, they're currently working on their new IP. This wasn't a remake, it's repackaged assets that already exist and something that was probably made in a game jam in 2011 that they forgot they had.
Since Skyrim was released volunteers managed to make a whole entire free game with the engine: Enderal (it's pretty great), as an aside.
It's really good but I haven't played it for years - before they released even more additional quests in a DLC/update - so it's hard to remember how it compared. IIRC it was slightly more linear but the characters were much more interesting and better written.
Making a new engine doesn't matter a huge amount tbh, and I promise you it took very little dev time to shit this out
That said I'm still laughing, how many fucking versions of this game are there now?
I look at it as more of a distraction to get Bethesda through till they release Starfield.
Although it will be interesting to see if the alleged engine overhauls will allow Bethesda to release a game, and not a bug riddled mess.
is this going to fix the busted audio and bad upscales of textures in the special edition?
Can they not negotiate an unreal engine license? Unreal engine 5 looks pretty good, and even smaller games can use unreal now and look great. Surely they have to realise that they don't have the current expertise to develop a new game engine for complex modern games if it's taking this long? Surely they have the money to hire some experts to help them build a new game engine?
I've heard, but don't know, that its hard to do Bethesda's trademark "items everywhere, items are physics objects" in other engines. That being said, Outer Worlds still felt like a Bethesda rpg without that so maybe they could take a bold new stance.
They’re making that space game tho. Really seems like a lot of eggs to put in one basket but we’ll see. I think they were hoping Fallout 76 would float them a lot further and they wouldn’t have to keep pumping out Skyrims
I hate that this exists because it means I'm probably going to end up owning it at some point.
From what I understand, since I already own the Special Edition, I already own this one too. So hey, it's nice to feel included.
Oh really? That sounds great, because I bought the legendary edition for 10 euro on sale and then because I already owned that I got the special edition for free
I bet Todd Howard still angrily punches a punching bag, angry he never made Skyrim a live service.
