Letter from the Editor
When I asked the Hexbear Community for collaborators on a zine. I was not surprised at the enthusiastic response to this project. But asking for collaborators and bringing a project to fruition requires active partnerships and vision. And one might ask, what is the vision for this zine?
This zine attempts to wade into "the discourse" with a distinct hexbearian tone and approach. Politics, technology, culture, current events, and anything else that the cursed discourse has to offer. But it is also an attempt to slow down. Let those topics marinate, engage with them more thoroughly.
My desire to collaborate on this zine with other members of the site, while fruitful have also left me at an impasse. I am not a terribly good graphic designer and I have felt the ticking of the clock get louder and more persistent. It is wrong for me to hold on to well-written and interesting pieces and photo essays in the hopes I'll wake up with enough graphic design sense to wrangle my way through InDesign. Therefore, I am putting all the articles up in /c/effort with the name of the author and the other communities they could be shared in. I am trying not to let perfect be the enemy of good, and folks I think we got some damn good stuff. If there are any enterprising graphic designers on the site who would like to turn these pieces into a complete zine, please do, I will send you all of the files. In the meantime please enjoy what we have to offer.
Entering the discourse is also an opportunity to enter the "IRL" with a zine that folks can download and print out for themselves, share with comrades, leave at public spaces, or use it to piss off your conservative relatives by radicalizing your niblings. It might bring more users and members to Hexbear, or place us on Joe's anti-Radicals Radar. This is all worthwhile work, for the cause.
The Disk Horse would be nothing without the willing and enthusiastic volunteers. Any missed opportunities, mistakes, or problematic decisions lie with me, the editor. I hope you enjoy nonetheless, and that in wading into the discourse: we find our own voice while simultaneously giving Hexbear's users a megaphone to drown out the fascists and their word vomits.

This is an interesting prospect! I wonder though if becoming more in the limelight would affect the site's unique atmosphere. I don't want to lose that.
Please if you think of anything just shoot me an email or msg, I will be happy to work it into a reality
My name is Nathan J Robinson and I declare myself boss over the bear zine :fuckin-deserve:
Hi Nathan, we are a wholly worker-owned, for the proles by the proles, kindly fuck off :)
This pretty damn cool :stalin-approval: finally we are true trots here.
I debated quoting Lenin about Trotsky writing a silly
letterzine. Maybe for Issue 2.
:carlin-pog:
:lets-fucking-go:
Before I read this I was :alex-no-supplements:
But now I'm :alex-supplements:
Fuck, this looks sick. Please bully me without mercy to get off my ass and contribute something next issue
If no one minds me just going for it I can try to make a printable version with some formatting to go with the images and make it look nice.
Edit: oh shit oh fuck! My town's anarchist book fair is inlike, a week! I'll see if I can have some in time for that!
Yes please! I'd love to be able to digitally distribute as a package.
Cool, might take a bit longer than expected. Major heatwave right now.
Yeah. I like this. Gonna churn up ideas for topics.
:thonk:
What kind of submissions are you looking for? Do they have to exclusively be related to theory or are personal interest stories and pop culture stuff available as well?
Anything that comes from the community. If you can tie it to theory or I can try and help with that, that’s nice, but doesn’t have to be. You can read through our pieces and see not every piece had an explicit marxist or socialist intonation.
A million thanks to you for the amazing cover art. When I received that by protonmail, I knew we were onto something <3
This is a cool project! I have graphic design, (vector) illustration and indesign experience, but I don't think I can commit a lot of time to it. It would be fun to do an item once in a while though.
Oh jeez. I didn't realize we were getting serious over here. Good work!
Is this our trot newspaper? Can I submit art? Can I write an article on materialist conceptions of history and Large Adult Sons (tm)?
I am very hungover and it's nearly midnight. Maybe tomorrow after I do my dieselpunk RPG prep
whenever you want to reach out, do. My work and school is gonna be kinda cray cray for the next few weeks.
