Is this what American politics has devolved to now? People feel so fucking powerless that one of the only courses of political action they actively participate in is buying brands that purport to hold their same beliefs?
Yes. This is when you have created a neoliberal society that commodities everything, even identity, so that consumption of commodities becomes the sole/primary form of personal and political expression. Then, add an ideological system that literally boils down to "whatever owns the libs". Voila. You have the American dystopia.
I'm still just trying to get my head around the theory that Radical Left Democrats get better prices on tires, so you should own them by shopping where they do.
I don't know what triggered this particular tantrum. But that said, CHUDs conflate corporate diversity PR stunts with the sinister liberal-communist Cultural Marxists undermining America. It doesn't matter how sincere or cynical a given PR stunt might be, or whether they expressed it at the behest of a given party or movement, a corporation expressing such a sentiment has become one of the evil communists. So their only way to respond is to "own the libs", or the corporation in this case. Break or burn the commodities you purchased from them. Stop purchasing commodities from that corporation for I don't know three months or something. Vote for Donald Trump. Like his tweets yelling about how Goodyear or Keurig are evil communists trying to destroy America.
It's all about owning the libs and since consumption is the only means of personal or political expression we still have, that's the first or even only arena they can conceive of owning the libs.
Performative PR shit is important if you want to act like an asshole and get away with it.
I remember people being horribly racist against Muslims after 9/11 and getting something between a free pass and open accolades. Eight years later, a Muslim was in the White House and you couldn't call anyone a removed or a Sand N-r with impunity anymore.
It may seem trite or banal, but these are the stakes Chuds are playing for. The right to use slurs at a party and still end the night getting head.
It always was, at least in recent decades. The difference now is that the two brands - Red & Blue - now have intricate exclusive marketing deals with other products.
radical left democrats
where? where are they, please god if they exist I want to know about them
simple typo. They meant radial left democrats. y'know, since tires and all
"We have to start playing now" he says, like two or three years after his supporters were lighting Keurigs and Nikes on fire on Facebook
Weird that so many radical leftists own large international corporations. Though I guess that's how it works. You're a radical communist but you pretend to be a capitalist so you can get a business and use that business to not make money, but to bully your ideological opponents. Kind of makes you wonder where Republicans get that idea from. Where have they seen this kind of thing play out? Where have they seen businesses being propped up by, say, government contracts because waging a war for capitalism as an ideology isn't actually profitable. And any business that would try to do such a thing would lose money if it weren't for the money and, uh, troops supplied by the government. Then they just throw, some random number, like $10T down the drain.
Get better tires for far less like they don't all use the same 2 rubber vendors and slap a brand on it.
I love how reading this tweet made me remember the Firestone and Ford tire controversy.
