I did. We all did. Still happy to see it.
Korean cinema has really seemed to break through in the US since Parasite. I will say I am not very exposed to Korean culture outside of what makes it over the Pacific to bleed into US culture. Which in my opinion makes it all the more impressive that two anti-capitalist Korean productions became international sensations after exploding in the US.
Can you all feel it? They tried to make us feel like the energy was gone, but it's still there, and it's not just Squid Game that's showing it.
EDIT - on a show related note, Oh-Il Nam was a total surprise to me, biggest twist I'd say.

It's there, I know it's there but like the heartbeat of revolutionary energy among the working class in the west is faint.
The fed has admitted to inflation above 5% for 4 straight months now - last time that happened was before 2008.
When the market crashes soon (or the dollar crashes, either way) it's not gonna feel faint anymore, not this time. Too much gunpowder has been poured on the entire situation, and try as they might they just can't seem to force Americans back into the happy-pre-covid ignorance days as easily
That's when Boston Dynamics Amphibious Sexual Assault Dogs and the FBI spy planes come out. The moment you even doubt capitalism the NSA panopticon is going to come down on you like a boulder on an ant. There's going to be like 15 guys in full deathstronaut gear pouring from every corner of the country into your living room. There's going to trucks preemptively soaking every neighborhood with teargas laden water. There's going to be LRAD's spouting every imagineable anti communist propaganda ever, and when you try to Google search "how to make molotov cocktail" there's going to be a captcha asking you to debunk anti communist talking points with a timer and if you spell one thing wrong the Delta Force operator hanging from the ceiling will pour his Black Rifle coffee on you
As funny as this description was, the US really showed it's whole ass during the BLM riots nationwide.
They barely have the capacity to deal with domestic dissent anymore. Without deploying the entire apparatus (which may even worsen the situation), they are without a hope of victory.

just wait until they start using live ammo and just start gunning us down
That would kick off something noone has any real control over.
At that point they are going all in and might very well lose.

Biden more than doubled the funding for the hiring program. They know.
I'm pretty sure they have a lot more stops still left to pull out, but it was pretty funny that they had to mobilize bureau of prisons thumbs and child soldiers to bolster their numbers
This comment reminded me of Robert Evan's After the Revolution for some reason.
But yeah, hellworld... not sure what else to say lol
Anarcho-FBI-informantism has it's faults but I really like Bobert's descriptions of future US dystopias. He's probably not that far off from the reality of it.
Yep, guess who owns a large portion of Bitcoin and Crypto now? All your favorite banks and hedge funds. And guess what they like to do during market crashes? Sell to oblivion and then buy even more at the bottom.
That's a no thank you from me for crypto as long as it's tied to the USD which the fed literally prints double existing supply every year and then decides who to give it to.
Crypto has been tied to the first for a while now. It's the only reason it's worth anything. Also the reason or needs to be do energy intensive, it's literally petro-dollar 2.0. Only this time instead of being backed by car consumption, it's backed by something that can't even be remotely linked to human enterprise.
Almost all of crypto's value comes from speculation, and I don't think that libertarians who truly believe in the project of decentralized currency are the majority stakeholders. I think if there's a market crash big firms that hold crypto will dump it, trashing the price, and then look to buy it back up at the lower price, the same way they do other commodities/stocks during a crash.
I could be wrong and the fundamental differences between crypto and other commodities could mean that it really is crash proof.
IT'S ALIIIIIIIIIVE!!!1! [lightning flashes and thunder crackles across the sky as rain lashes the windows]
Russian marxists have been trying to resurrect him for nearly a century now, why do you think they keep him so well preserved?
I will gladly follow Lenin-bot onto the internet battlefields of 2054 following his successful upload in 2049. :cyber-lenin:
Charging up the Pyongyang hotel like the building from Ghostbusters.
We’re only 1 year past the largest anti-police riots in US history bruh. It’s there.
Columbo. You can watch a frumpy coated detective fuck up rich people for an hour at a time.
The capitalist will sell us the very rope we intend to hang him with, and we will use it to perform rope-cutting magic tricks for adoring customers at a Las Vegas casino show.
Something something Liberal Communists something something Zizek.
Eh, I agree for most of the world's time spent under capitalist hegemony, but it's a strategy that isn't without risk. What happens if your system blows up in your face right in the midst of much of the popular media leaning anti-capitalist at the time, all while China appears to be making it's long anticipated leftward turn?
Idk, seems like we're in for an interesting couple years, but that's hopeful optimism lol

Started with Oldboy actually. US distributors started gobbling up rights to Korean movies after that and invested in their directors which culminated in the Oscar win for Parasite.
I kept seeing memes about this show so I figured I'd give the first episode a try just to see what it was about and as soon as I finished, I came here to see if anyone was talking about it. Pretty fucking good so far, I gotta say. When I first put it on I wasn't expecting such a sharp anti-capitalist message but I'm very pleasantly surprised.
Maybe I am just looking for it but I feel like every piece of korean media I see is about it being a hyper capitlaist hellscape.
I mean it would make sense, they're right on the border of a non-capitalist (marxist) experiment with which they share much of their cultural heritage with.
Korea is a hyper-competitive society that's also very rigid because for a long time, the economy was dominated by a handful of conglomerates and performance in life was heavily tied to school exams. It's not strictly "capitalist" competition because it's not leaving people to the forces of the market per se, but there is a real "survival of the fittest" mindset when it comes to shit like school exams because of the idea that it has such an effect on your future. Two years of mandatory military service for men doesn't help things.
I thought this was talking about splatoon
brain is permanently 2017
it is incredibly violent and pretty brutal at times even when there's no on screen violence, so probably a good call
It's pretty brutal. It's kinda like Saw but more harrowing cause it's not as lazy
It's not gross like saw, there's no torture or anything.
Most of the libs I've seen who watch it don't understand the point and just go "woah cool gore"
TV depicting Capitalist Realism: :geordi-no:
An exciting new Spectacle: :geordi-yes:
In episode 2, when
spoiler
they were like "We'll kill you to protect the integrity of this democratic procedure" when everyone was voting on whether or not they'd all stay on the games.
:amerikkka-clap:
Lmao right? I'm worried that libs won't get it, though. They'll just go, "oh cool, see? They had a chance to vote! 😁 They chose this! It was voluntary!" while ignoring the threat of violence both in and outside of the "games."
