    Inspired by Hasan’s latest drama.

    :funny-clown-hammer: STREAMER DISCOURSE DETECTED :funny-clown-hammer:

Seriously, though, what did he do? :antelope-popcorn:

He's deleted the vod so the only info I can find is by scrolling through twitter where there's just this short video left. Looks like Hasan was talking about something else, chat baited him into neopronouns discourse, hasan malded over it before ragequitting, and now people are mad at him, some comparing him to :jbp:

Also, lmao that's about the quality of discourse I expected. Thanks for the explanation.

I was watching it drunk, so basically he said this:

"If you insist I use some weird neo-pronouns and get angry if I get it wrong, we likely can't be friends"

Then he said his 1. Language has no pronouns at all and that he's totally in favor of gender abolishion. He also said he'll call people not comforming to the binary they.

Edit: I just remember he offered to call them by name instead as well.

Unfortunatly no. I was just back from a party and needed a bit of chill entertainment while being busy contemplating about whether I should or shouldn´t get out of the jacket I was still wearing for some reason. Didn´t even cross my mind to save the vod or clip anything.

Why the fuck would anyone care what people call themselves? As long as it's not hurting or attacking anyone else, who the hell cares? Frank Herbert literally made up a bunch of bullshit terms and nonsense words for Dune and no one was like "hey, that's not allowed. You must write your story using words we already have." Shakespeare did stuff like that too, making up new phrases, but for actual terms and words we still use today. People are gonna come up with stuff that best expresses them, so who are we to stop them. Hell, if enough people like them they may become the dominant terms, and why stop progress like that out of obsession with maintaining the status quo of language?

both of these takes are bad and don't consider that making up words in fiction is different from making up words while actually talking to someone

Binary pronouns are fucky little signifiers that are way too constrictive and afaik neopronouns work to deconstruct or at least challenge that. Idk about hasan :vivian-shrug:

AFAIK, pronouns refer to gender expression so he/him, she/her, they/them makes sense as referring to men, women, and nonbinary folks. What do neopronouns do?

      Edit - identity for expression.

Gender identity is the person that you are, while gender expression is how you present the person that you are to the outside world.

Thanks for pointing that out. It's such a simple distinction, but it may have helped me a lot.

Instill explicitly not that in the mind and language of the person addressing the neopronoun user.

as much as commonly accepted pronouns are a personal decision, they come with expectations and baggage that some people do not want associated with them. Breaking (or ceasing) those expectations is the point

Idk what stupid shit Hasan said, but neopronouns are genuinely easy to understand. People use neopronouns when pronouns like he/she/they don't feel like the right fit. Gender is pretty vast and it makes sense that three sets of pronouns won't encompass everyone. Respecting people's autonomy with their gender identity and expression is the very least we can do and all neopronouns are valid

If you're wondering how to use someone's pronouns, you can respectfully ask or you can read a bit online about neopronouns and get a better idea in general

I don't want to downplay the significance of more established xenogenders, this is in reference to things like Chocolate-Strawberrygender, a xenogender that is entirely based on a snack that's built from both underpaid agricultural labor and exotic ingredients procured by imperialism, or kingenders of fictional characters.

disclaimer- not sure if i really fit under trans umbrella or not. I can kind of understand being pissy if some third gender person you barely know is giving you shit for not immediately knowing your xe from your xir. There has to be some allowance for the fact that common pronouns are deeply engrained for most people and it takes some rewiring to learn new ones. (And also I think it's a dick move to choose intentionally difficult pronouns... not a motivating factor for most neopronoun users but it is in isolated cases.) But Hasan wasn't just saying cut us some slack, he was also basically saying don't even bother trying to learn. And also kinda shitting on third gender people. Like I get it, I don't know wtf heligender is supposed to be and i can't understand what circumstances or personality traits would lead one to identify that way. But I think the line has to be that gender identity is a personal journey for you alone to define for yourself, and I don't like the notion that we're going to be in the business of delineating the joke genders from the real genders. So pretty shit take by Hasan on the whole, not completely unreasonable but there's no reason to be that combative when nobody's even asked you to learn their pronouns, there's literally zero burden on you.

In reality people that use neopronouns most likely won’t get upset if you use they/them if you literally don’t know and are generally pretty chill. Just ask what someone wants to be referred to by and do it. If I said to you my pronouns were fae/faer it’d just be that. If you mess up apologize and correct it and move on.

There’s this weird take by cis people that trans people will bite your head off at a single mistake when that just doesn’t happen, as long as it’s not intentional and you make an effort to correct yourself then it’s fine.

Hasan’s take is shit in any capacity because it’s really not that hard, I get English is his second language but just like the gendered language he uses and messes up at times he should just as easily adopt neopronouns and apologize when messing up. In the end he has never had decent takes on trans issues and eeks by on the merit of not being super outwardly hostile.

People like Hasan saying "cut us some slack" is so weak. It's the same woah as me cis shit that reactionary cis people have been saying about every half step of progress :cissues:

"It takes time to learn!!" as they intricately learn bourgeois political systems and deep dive their favorite media. He doesn't have to get it all immediately, but he's a public figure on the left. The least he can do is take time to learn a bit when it comes to something as personal as someones identity. Find me these aggressive neopronoun users that are screaming at Hasan for not knowing someone's pronouns by first glance

I can understand his point of view, if you take into consideration that his first language is inherently gender neutral.

He said He/She is something unusual and he's gonna use they for everyone not comforming with these binaries.

Idk. Maybe I got a shit take here.
