Not only that, we're going to ensure that the poor are even less able to afford transportation because these subsides are getting tacked on directly to the price of new EVs, and eventually used cars will get too expensive.
God their actually doing the stupid fucking tax credit for Teslas bit
Lol it's worse than that, Tesla's whole business model isn't even selling cars- it's selling the tax credits they get for each car they make to other car manufacturers.
It won't be for Tesla's. You guys are just as bad as storm front when it comes to just reading headlines
Then Prius or whatever. There's no affordable option for electric vehicles, so they might as well all be Tesla to me. The leaf is the cheapest and it's 30k.
Furthermore a tax credit is useless if you don't have the money or credit in the first place to get a loan for the car.
Just let me have a fucking bike lane
Last i read it's a refundable tax credit. Which means you will get the full amount back.
But what if I do not have the money in the first place?
NVM it's 30% of the purchase of a new ebike lmao. Nope no one can afford that shit either
I'm pretty sure there are ebikes and cargo ebikes for under a thousand dollars. This would drop them into the under-$700 zone.
I'll bitterly and resentfully take my credit on it then at some point
???
They're referencing a bit. The whole point of the joke is that they're offering tax credits for electric cars instead of doing any meaningful infrastructure.
Love the replies that don't understand that 'up to' means that you're not getting a free electric car.
Musk's pockets, considering that Tesla doesn't allow independent dealerships.
Tesla makes up most of EV sales currently but that share will fall in the coming years as the competition introduces more models. Next year Hyundia, Kia, BMW, Ford, Nissan, have new EVs
gonna get the new electric mustang so i can recklessly drive into a crowd while saving the earth
Will this also have a stupid means test like the electric bike tax credit?
Yes, but the cutoff will be much higher because we must prop up the happy motoring society at all costs.
a refundable tax credit worth 30 percent of a new e-bike’s purchase price, capped at $1,500. Bikes that cost more than $8,000 would not be eligible, and the 30 percent credit starts to phase out for bikes that cost more than $5,000. The program is also means-tested based on tax status, meaning the credit would begin phasing out $200 for every $1,000 spent on the purchase for individuals who earn $75,000, heads of household earning $112,500, and married couples who file jointly earning $150,000. https://www.theverge.com/2021/10/28/22751273/ebike-tax-credit-build-back-better-biden
Actually, here's a better link: https://www.fastcompany.com/90692231/the-build-back-better-act-wants-you-to-buy-an-electric-car-an-electric-bike-not-so-much
According to the latest version of the Build Back Better framework, if you’re looking to purchase an EV, you can expect a total of $12,500 tax credit, if the vehicle meets certain domestic assembly and battery capacity requirements. That’s available to individuals earning up to $400,000 (or $800,000 for joint tax returns). For electric bicycles, the bill includes a credit for 30% of the cost of an e-bike priced under $5,000, for a maximum credit of $1,500. The baseline income cap for that credit is $75,000 for an individual, $112,500 for a head of household, and $150,000 in the case of a joint return. The credit gets reduced by $200 for each $1,000 that a taxpayer’s gross income exceeds those caps.
Whoops, ebike credit just got slashed further! https://twitter.com/DavidZipper/status/1455984841883783177
YOU STARTED AT 7.5 TRILLION
WE COULD HAVE COVERED THE COUNTRY WITH HIGH SPEED RAIL YOU FUCKING FUCKS
Oh holy shit, this would actually be really good for encouraging some people to get small NEVs like the Kandi, especially if it kills off some of the weird states that have an added fee for buying an EV
I would unironically use this to get one of those since I need a car and don't currently own one at all. Would come out to like 4 grand or something after the credit.
the weird states that have an added fee for buying an EV
Holy shit what :amerikkka:
I don't understand NEVs because, with a top-speed of 25-35mph, wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy a golf-cart since most of them typically come street legal anyways
Golf carts legally can't exceed and are designed generally around a spec of 15 mph. It just feels faster. They also don't generally include literally any safety features, like turn signals, mirrors, horns, seatbelts, window defoggers, doors or other things like that. So, LSVs and NEVs are generally safer, faster, and more feature rich. Some include heating as well, a necessary aspect for them in colder climates.

today i learnt there is a legitimate distinction between a golf-cart and a LSV. All the 'golf-carts' I was thinking of (i.e. these $15,000 golf-trucks I've seen boomers at the beach driving to get breakfast) are considered LSVs not golf-carts. :cat-confused:
Yep, they're actually surprisingly common and often confused with golf carts.
Tesla's not the only game in town when it comes to electric cars. Actual car companies make them now, too. Look at this
this is the first time i've ever seen a concept vehicle or a domestic truck made after the 90s where i thought, "damn, i want that." that shit is gorgeous.
That bed is like a foot off the ground.
No more having to lift a washing machine up to your shoulders!
No more trying to arc dirt from 10 feet away as you shovel it into the bed!
Shit, if you pull it against a curb, I bet you could pull a loaded handcart right into the bed!
obviously, i am going to put a 36" competition grade lift kit on it so i have to pole vault into the cab and slow down to 12 mph when turning more than 30°
If you read Ford's preas release carefully, they're actually just selling the electric engine for custom car nerds, not the whole pick-up.
I see they plan to double down on stealing other people's lithium
Imagining a capitalist Marie Kondo: "Does this thing make line go up?"
