Having a pandemic originate in your country is communism and the more it spreads the more communist it is.

Good god Americans are fucking dumb. I remember when it first started and China were going into strict lockdowns, how all the US media was calling those lockdowns draconian and shit.

Not just Americans, Australians and generally Westerners as a whole. My friend's dad, who's a nuclear scientist, said that China locking down Wuhan and going around testing people and taking them to hospitals if they were suspected of having COVID was authoritarian and violated human rights. Like ??? not wanting people to die is violating human rights?

I doubt it will be a full on war, at least not intentionally. If you took nukes out of the picture, I don't see an offensive war against china going well and with nukes? Well yeah.

It will be a cold war, economic decoupling and proxy wars. Thing is, economic decoupling could take a decade or more so this isnt going away any time soon.

The more the US talks up the threat of China, the more I think they might not be just "state capitalist" after all

I'm certain they think China poses a real threat to spreading communism, wouldnt make sense from their perspective to allow a country led by a communist party to threaten US global hegemony to a larger and larger degree. I honestly think they're surprised China handled covid so well and they were impacted economically so little. It put them in a much better place than the US and I'm certain this will be weaponized against them.

Not only did they handle Covid so we'll, but I'm comparison to the US, China is seen as the real global leader to much of the world. Basically anywhere that isn't tethered to the US by a short leash is going to see China as the obvious adult in the room. Even our "allies" see that the US is a clearly decaying empire but are scared to firmly take China's side.

Honestly, I don't think the new anti-Chinese sentiment has much to do with communism. What I think is really making the western elites hysterical is that it's becoming increasingly apparent that their precious hyperindividualist free market capitalism might be inferior to state capitalism and a strong government.

Hyper individual free market is a meme to get poor people to work harder. Rich people don't believe in that fairy tale.

What they gonna do about it? Bezos needs his cheap consumer goods and Cook needs his iPhones. If production of either is interrupted, they will fucking do a coup.

The thing is, the intelligence community and political elites want to decouple from China but nobody else does. The biggest players of the American Bourgeoisie have extensive ties with China. Apple is worth like $2tril and Amazon is around that too. Add in another giant like Walmart and you'd have zero chance of passing legislation to decouple with China. Straight_Depth is right, if they did that there would be a coup. There is too much money at stake.

The true reason libs hate Trump so much is that he represents a different faction of the Bourgeoisie whose interests are increasingly in conflict with the interests of the larger Bourgeoisie. Resource extraction, construction and domestic manufacturing would rather have right wing protectionism while tech and the service sector wants pure neoliberalism.
