I wonder if the neoliberal will figure out what ideology allowed cars to destroy public transportation.

It's funny when they claim to support things that their ideology ruthlessly opposes in practice. See also: abolishing borders.

Because yeah, your buddies in the Democratic party are notorious for encouraging the free movement of persons. Fascinating how these same people manage to fanboy over Obama when just a couple months ago, after the Biden admit got caught whipping Haitian immigrants, he went on video fearmongering about the dangers of "open borders".

Even in the EU the neolibs are only interested if you happen to be native to their little white enclave. Sorry, but you can't maintain global imperialism without militarized borders.

Reminds me of that line from Disco Elysium:

Moralists don't really have beliefs. Sometimes they stumble on one, like on a child's toy left on the carpet. The toy must be put away immediately. And the child reprimanded.

r/neoliberal is basically designed to lure socdems and other people who have done 0 thoughts about the world into believing the status quo is looking out for them.

As long as the state isn't collapsing on itself, there are very slow gains, like a new highway, a new railway, a couple new schools or whatever. That is being used by them to show "see? I told you the system is working. Please support Mr. Biden and his friends to stay in power and I promise we will take good care of you"

People don't really care that there is a better system as long as the current one gives them enough bread and circenses. The liberal governments have just mastered the art of keeping people docile with the bare minimum and they keep doing the bare minimum. Now for for example climate change it's impossible, but they will mobilize and fix it... once things start already going past a certain breaking point, and it will endanger their holy stability. They don't care about people being in poverty, being exploited by capitalism, being forced to migrate, unemployed, having no support in life.

And the socdem countries they love too? They might give people healthcare etc. but the workers there have 0 say in the process and people are believed to be stupid and untrustworthy anyway. Yet the local working class keeps getting more education, more money to do consumerism with. And they get immigrants, do imperialism, whatever helps them get richer.

It's honestly depressing how people are content with capitalist realism, or at least enough not to revolt

I actually hate Elon Musk, but even if I didn't I would fake it, so that chuds buy more Teslas and get melted in the explosive lithium volcano that they all inevitably become once you hit a 3 inch bump in the road

I wonder if this guy realized how many markets were opened by the death of passenger rail, though?!

Doesn't he care about GDP growth?

Neoliberals hate Musk because they hate the auto industry and cars (they haven't figured out which ideology was responsible for cars dominating our infrastructure).

Leftists hate Elon Musk because he's a billionaire capitalist.

We are not the same (because neoliberals would reflexively defend Musk the second the left criticizes him).

The meme format is that you both do the same thing, but for different reasons. So they're saying that they want walkable cities and that's why they hate Musk, as opposed to just being anti-capitalist.

A lot of self-identified neoliberals don't understand what neoliberalism is. They have some of the same desires as leftists, but are too in love with the sense of intellectual superiority they get from disdaining wingfidels to actually think about what it would take to achieve them.

They have some of the same desires as leftists,

No, they don't. Neoliberals are fundamentally opposed to a stateless, classless society that abolishes the value form. Their entire ideology is based on making things as easy as possible for accumulation by making markets as frictionless as possible, some of them are just deluded enough to believe that the rising tide will lift all boats.

I think it’s more simple than that. They are extremely comfortable in their personal lives and because of this they believe the system is sound and just needs a small adjustment here or there.

They are also so comfortable that they can’t even imagine what it’s like to experience violence and oppression.

I'm getting real Walt Disney EPCOT vibes from this. Their idea of a "dense walkable city" isn't one that centers human experience, but expedites the commute between work and home while also commodifying all aspects of home life through experimental programs conducted on the workers.

YOU hate Elon Musk because he's exactly the kind of person I think society should be structured to benefit. I don't understand that the success of his business efforts is the exact outcome of my politics. We are not the same!

With the giant amount of SocDems subscribed to /r/neoliberal, you're safe to assume that this is a psy-op. Nobpdy truly neoliberal would support zoning regulations.

I had a nice debate there with musky bros arguing that 4k passengers per hour for 30k$ per km is a better deal than 180k passengers per hour for 143k$ per km

In George Orwin’s 1999, the party convinced its citizens that 4/30 was greater than 180/143 as a means of social control
