Capitalists see polls about how young people like socialism (even if to them it's really just milquetoast social democracy) and really are kinda panicking a bit.

Can't wait to see what the Texas statutes on mandatory public school subjects look like in ten years, provided Texas has not demolished all of its public schools to build Whataburgers surrounded by giant parking lots by then.

We're already well past the breaking point. So many of these testing mandates and teaching requirements and documentation standards are piling up that nobody can keep up with it even in the "best" schools. We've got a teacher shortage. Kids are falling behind full grade-levels at an accelerating pace, particularly after COVID. The state's only move is to raise costs and fire people, without paying for the balance they incur.

Teachers are pissed. Parents are pissed. Charter schools are either highly exclusionary or outright scams, so there's no relief there. I don't know whats going to come of it, as we've got 5.3M kids in the system, atm, and there's at least some tacit recognition that dumping them onto the street would be a bad idea. But the idea that you can just do D.A.R.E. for Communism and make this all go away is... optimistic.

I'm not even gonna make a lathe of heaven joke because this is almost exactly what WILL happen if the fash get their way in Texas (maybe make "American Exceptionalism" required more than anti-communism, but maybe both).

Yeah one can criticize the civilian casualties or what have you I agree with you there but I'd rather the serbs be prevented from doing another genocide like they had just got done doing and suffer some losses then just let em into Kosovo to make more mass graves. It's awful but way I see it it's the same as the german civillians that died during WWII. Was it sad? Yes it really was. Is it better those German civvies die before Generalplan Ost gets implemented? Yeah

So all Serbs are "packs of genocidal assholes"?

I was nearly killed in one Serbian attack and I can tell you with a high degree of confidence, that your opinion is dogshit and you should do better.

You don't even need Parenti. Chomsky's analysis of that bombing is the same, even though his negative opinion of Milosevic is very well known. Chomsky quotes the highest levels of Clinton administration who said the bombing had nothing to do with stopping the "possible" genocide, but disciplining Serbia for not following the wishes of western imperialists. Furthermore, the bombing was long after the Milosevic's "fuckery" in Bosnia. Furthermore, they bombed the entire infrastructure of the country, back to the stone age. Not just military targets. Furthermore, it was about Kosovo, not Bosnia, and at that time the Kosovars organized a terrorist group there who were "being assholes" there. Furthermore, this bombing actually made things on Kosovo worse, rather then better etc. Finally, this is all Chomsky, not Parenti.

I've got a friend who does speech pathology in a Houston suburb. Liberal as hell, but otherwise a genuinely goodhearted and decent person.

Her first week on the job, the thing all her coworkers warned her of straight out of the gate was that she should expect to get sued by a parent. Parents would sue you for not giving their kids enough time. Or for giving them the wrong kind of therapy. Or for giving them too much attention (because then they'd be out of regular classes). Or for favoring another kid over their kid. Or for failing to fill out this or that form of arcane documentation. Or for not providing approval for this or that higher level of treatment.

Every parent was scrambling to get their kids the most resources. And the most effective way to win this tug-of-war was to literally sue individual faculty members assigned to give your child that care.

This is, admittedly, Texas. And the suburb is absolutely overflowing with PMCs, particularly lawyers, with far more money than sense. But I've got a few neighbors who are teachers. I've got friends who are teachers. And they all kinda confirm that the profession is an absolute shit-show statewide, because of how poorly everything is funded and managed. The faculty are absolutely shit on all the time as a matter of course, because shitting on faculty is the most efficient way to get your kid to the top of the pile.

It's a textbook instance of the term "Kafkaesque".

And they all kinda confirm that the profession is an absolute shit-show statewide nationwide

Almost all of the cool teachers at my highschool quit all at once and it's not better anywhere else...just worse

It actually worries the fuck out of my because I have to wonder what the cumulative effect of all this is going to be. No one is having kids, and the ones that are popped go straight into an anti human meatgrinder with zero resources to cope unless they're booooooj. It's going to create superpredators with like, fins and shark teeth. It's going to create socialist superpredators (SSP), and a few Aryan Apex Animals (AAA)

        it's bad :doomjak:

Probably gonna create more fascists since we’re all atomized and only get our political ideas from media now, the vast majority of which is owned or influenced by the capitalist class.

Yeah, unironically. Fascists are pretty good at spreading their ideas through memes and jokes and making it all seem like one big spectacle. This country is fucked lol, I want to leave but Mexico isn't much better, Spain has serious financial issues, and Chile also has fucked up shit going on. The rest of the EU is headed in the same direction as the USA.

Probably just have to come to grips with being turned into a lampshade

There was a guy on GETchan documenting the absolute fucking DELUGE of fascist agitprop proliferating on iFunny, a site popular with middle school kids. It's like non stop. Right wingers are all pedophile so they like to hang out on shit like Roblox too...

Get this, the bill is being sponsored by Rep. Maria Salazar. She's a daughter of gusanos and she was a news anchor in Miami. She was born in the US in 1961 and she went to some private school in Coral Gables. Given that if she was born in the US that close in time to the revolution, my guess is her parents were some rich landowners or bourgeoisie. Every single time with these people...
