idk how but my YT ads are wild. Poorly acted mobile game ads mixed with stuff marketed toward "manly men" and occasionally an ad for a channel preaching that the Bible was made up by the devil, but God is very much real and about to start judgement day so you need to Give Them Money Now by buying their merch to get into heaven.
my twitter ads are less wild, but for some reason the algo thinks I'm the kind of person who would be buying a fighter jet for the Canadian military or purchasing technology for more efficient but just as destructive oil and mineral extraction.
the fact that my targeted ads on nearly every platform are way off base and inaccurate as hell gives me a tiny bit of comfort

As a white guy who lived in Hong Kong for a time, they're not all sexpats! Some of the white guys there just have really messed up, racist views of Asian women and want to find a wife/gf there.
fr though, the expat scene in China (at least in HK) is really weird and messed up, I stayed tf away from them as much as possible.
idk I wasn't there for that long, and I just made friends with locals. At the very least, if you're a white guy the sexpats and chauvinists will absolutely reveal themselves to you real quick, they won't hide it.
In terms of women expats... there were so few of them, I can't recall actually running into one.

This is basically the reason why I use ingonito mode for youtube links unless I know exactly what the video is, that combined with enough use of the "Don't recommend this channel" feature that it could be added to the list of victims of communism.
I also keep clicking "Don't recommend this channel" on these things, not that it helps much since there's an endless supply of right-wing shit to shove in our collective faces
