I'm trying to fight depression by spending time outdoors ;)
First it was egirls, then eboys, now ebikes. Whats next? How far will this depravity go?
How do you like your ebike? How is it compared to a regular bike for long distance?
I don't have that much experience with a regular bike, but I went on a holiday with it once. With a regular bike you often move very slow, like 15km/h, especially if you have luggage with you. This might be a little bit better if that bike isn't really old like my old bike, but it's still pretty exhausting. I didn't ride my regular bike very much, I had weeks where I would use it to get around the city a lot, but the 10-15km trips 2-3 times add up to doing real sport. I don't like that very much and I think that's why I didn't ride the bike often.
Now I have only had the ebike for a couple of days, but it has been fun. The thing that helps me most I believe is that I don't have to put in a lot of effort. There is a hill coming or strong wind? You don't have to push through. I believe that when I had a bad day at uni I will still take the bike, because I can just cruise along at 25km/h and basically use it like a motor scooter.
But let's be honest, I haven't had the bike for long enough to say much about it.
ebikes are one of the only legit good, new developments from the last decade or so. ebikes + trains is a solid public transport solution.
It's a CUBE touring hybrid pro 500. I read up on the ebike stuff on an ebike forum and then asked if this was a good buy for my purposes and they confirmed. If you want one I would urge you to do the same and make sure you get what you need!
2400EUR, ebikes are overpriced unfortunately, for the same price I could have gotten a motor scooter. Buuuuut - this does suit my needs better I believe because I can use many roads that motor scooters can't use, I can take it with me when traveling by train and I do some sport.
Also it's 25km/h max, after that the motor doesn't support you and you just have regular bike mode. Which is fine I guess, it wouldn't really be a bicycle if it went like 35km/h.
Oh of course I got insurance for the bike, it's more expensive than all other things I own combined :grinning face: 6EUR/month for insurance is pretty cool I think.
Thanks. It's not easy but I hope it'll be worth it, I can't go on like I did before.
Just taking control by picking a mental health activity and then following through and doing it is powerful, I think. You should feel good about that, and hang on to that feeling!
Yeah not really unfortunately, it's a stupid battery indicator. It also said that I had 30km distance left. Which would fit, because I had driven 20km the other day and that would add up to 120km of range that I calculated. Still pretty good mostly on assist level 2 of 4, even if the battery ages a bit I will pretty much get 100km :)
Yeah battery indicators universally are worthless on ebikes, even the expensive ones. Really all you can do is figure out what the max distance is on a single charge and then reset/watch your tripometer.
Oh fortunately this bike does have the shitty battery symbol, but also an estimation of how many kilometers I have left and that one is veeeery accurate.
I try to ride my bike at least 5 days per week for at least an hour. I’ve been doing it since the beginning of covid but didn’t really have a goal until May. Since then I’ve lost almost 17 lbs and 20 lbs since the start of the year. My road bike has been out of commission for a bit so I’ve been riding my folding bike.
There are instructions on scootertalk.org on how to domesticate/personalize lime, bird, etc. rental scooters.
I cracked a lime gen3 as a weekend project and they're quite fun to ride
Nice! I'm just finishing up building my kit ebike right now and love riding it, beats the hell out of the money wasted on a car
