Had every developed nation taken covid as seriously as China does today chuds would have said things like "Remember that covid scare from back in 2020? Total overreaction! That big scary virus turned out to be nothing, no worse than seasonal flu. A waste of taxpayer money!"

If there was somehow a competent response from the US government and economy at the beginning of the pandemic, the media would ensure it could never ever happen again.

Imagine claiming to be a communist and believing that America is, or ever has been, a democracy.

That’s really my biggest thing. Like, I do think Jan 6 was an attempted coup. I mean, it was a hilariously incompetent attempted coup by some of the stupidest people in the country, but still an attempted coup. But it wasn’t an attack on democracy because the US isn’t and has never been a democracy.

The red, white, and blue color scheme is also digusting and clearly deliberate. And this comes after CPUSA supposedly denounced this "patsoc" bullshit at that big conference a few weeks ago. Seems like they have some house cleaning to do.

the subtext of that line seems to me to be glee at cheap labor, like capitalists who said it wanted it to be true and were projecting their subconscious fraction of disgust with themselves onto the Chinese

They had over four thousand deaths but that was in 2019 and early 2020. Since 2021 there's been under fifteen thousand cases and two deaths. That is extremely low so you're right, it should be higher.

Edit: please see me response lower down

Actually I found this surprisingly open-minded article from Australia that explores how the numbers could be so low. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-06/china-low-coronavirus-death-toll/100587910

Basically, with cases being imported from abroad, it may be younger and healthier people getting infected. With quick and thorough testing, cases are caught sooner so treatment begins earlier, and less serious cases are counted. Vaccination rate is very high which helps recovery. And finally, people who die after recovery due to comorbidities and covid making their condition worse may not be counted.

I remember it being news recently that “despite china’s ‘zero-covid’ policy” they had hundreds of cases over a few months, so it seems low but not unbelievably low, especially when you consider that they probably don’t have the same problems with overcrowded hospitals

yeah they seemed to have a lot of portable building blocks around, as if they knew there was a potential for such a thing to happen and planned for it (WHO has always said china is likely gonna be the center of many outbreaks simply due to population and urbanization) or maybe they expropriated some building materials from local porkies

Yes and there's an amazing time lapse of one of the hospitals being constructed in just 10 days.

Maybe. Even probably. But even if they're hiding 99.9% of their covid deaths, it still ain't even close.

Plus it's a moot point cus we know for a fact a bunch of Florida cops pointed a gun in the face of a researcher and her family for exposing higher covid deaths than were being reported. Somebody credible can prove China's doing something similar whenever they feel like.

OK so you come in shitting on one of the US' only good orgs, call them electoralist when they explicitly are not, and cite accusations made by a Gonzalo-supporting website?

So I’m an former member, my partner and I left because the org has a problem with covering up sexual assault. We counted six different branches that covered up assault.

One even involved gloria la riva herself and someone else I thought was a comrade, driving to sacramento to basically tell someone who was assaulted to STFU and that they were being counterrevolutionary by wanting the assaulter to be kicked out the party.

Ok PSL is like hexbears favorite party (not that they actually join) but my only interaction with them is running into them at some anti-police protests.

So I'm always interested to hear people's opinion on them, why do you not like them?

I've seen PSL send people to picket lines, anti-police protests, climate marches, and elected officials' homes. I don't know what else you'd want from a party.

I agree with you, but you could apply the same to DSA but that gets much more of a angry response around these parts.

I've only seen the DSA at the women's march and pride. (PSL was at both of those too lol.)

If your local DSA is better, you should by all means work with them instead.

What angry responses are here? There's just one person saying they don't like them and a much larger cohort defending the org. Lol

Calling it Hexbear's "favorite party" and saying people wouldn't actually join has serious "I am just joking, its satire" vibes. making a broad unfounded claim and then going "lol" comes off an angry or shitstiring. Sorry if that was not your intent, but the instant bitching that everyone here apparently loves and defends it and right away deflecting to some generalized idea of reactions to DSA is bad faith.

I count 2 posts excluding your own that are negative. I will never get this; enter a conversation with an inflammatory claim and then ask others to take sides based on your own argument. if not angry, that's :reddit-logo: shit. DSA has far more people defending it on this site, and plenty of critique of PSL, yet you claim PSL is a darling here and despite acting like you have no dog in this, deflect to "well actually DSA does those things to" when positives are mentioned. How is that not being anti-PSL? Your framing an argument you want to happen by stating there are these two distinct sides on the board with one supposedly being preeminent and a darling despite.....like every 3rd thread about it.

Hell @mrbigcheese makes regular positive threads and updates about DSA here, far more than anyone does for PSL. Claiming PSL is favored and then bouncing to any positives being positives for DSA as if that has bearing on its support is an active attempt to form a narrative and equate any pro-PSL sentiment with dislike of DSA. You don't make that bs claim and steer responses to complaining about DSA being unfairly maligned, and then pretend like that's some good natured questioning with no intent or anger towards PSL. If you didn't want to make a negative response to PSL getting praise, then why would you deflect the reasons off to DSA vs PSL and again make generalizations that are far from accurate? If I was pissed at PSL and wanted to start beef about it, that is exactly what I would do tactically. You're generalizations told us what you feel; you think PSL is unfairly supported because people say positive things about it, and that any good it does you feel should instead be support for DSA as if compliments are finite and exclusive with DSA being unfairly treated. Again if not angry, then certainly miffed

Sorry if you thought my comments were negative towards PSL, I've had nothing but good interactions with the org when I've worked with them in other orgs I'm in. I was genuinely curious why someone had a negative view of them.

I'm honestly not going to respond to the rest of the post because you're taking me in pretty bad faith and incredibly seriously then when I'm just dicking around, so it's probably best to just leave it.

Sorry I seem to have struck a nerve, wasn't my intention.
