while we're at it we should get rid of all weight restrictions on how much you can load a ship.

Okay but isn't a huge part of the supply issues related to not having enough truckers to actually get the products to the end point? They're literally training 18 year old fresh faces now it is so dire. Obviously he isnt going to address the fact that wages for many jobs related to the supply chain, not just truckers are a big part of the issue.

I know when the ports on the west coast shut down due to strikes that effected things massively, and a bunch of truckers actually joined the dock workers.

Labour will always be central in these things but I'm pretty sure everyone is latching onto the bridge thing because it was the only policy outlined in the tweet that is tangible. "Less traffic, quicker ports, " those aren't prescriptive the way "removing weight limits on bridges" is.

But also depending on where you live in the USA I imagine bridge weight limits also hurt a fair bit. Years of disinvestment of infrastructure has left a lot of bridges able to support as little as half the weight they were designed for back before everyone started driving 2-tonne F350s. If you live in a city with a lot of rivers or freeways (all USian cities) then trucking shit has actually been getting harder over time because fewer and fewer bridges can support all the weight they need to to maintain current volumes in trucks. This is also exacerbated by snow in the winter, both for traffic and for weight.

I am once again :flattened-bernie: thinking of the bridge in TN that had a completely severed structural member and could be seen cracking in photos as far back as 2016.

I for one think the combination of poor and aging infrastructure, absolutely no safety inspections, and no weight restrictions is a winning combination.
