    Russia had a lot of excess deaths, so they're trying to start a war to cover it up.

    BREAKING NEWS: Russia (and almost every other neoliberal capitalist economy) handled covid poorly.

    Critics have accused the Kremlin of prioritizing the country’s economy and refusing to introduce mobility restrictions even as cases surged and hospitals became overwhelmed on multiple occasions over the last 18 months. Russia had only one short lockdown during spring 2020.

    WOW that's insane, couldn't be me :side-eye-1::side-eye-2:

        1 million (900k actually) is for directly attributed covid deaths. excess deaths is significantly higher. i think? https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

          Excess deaths is actually lower than that. Wonder why, maybe people are driving less?

          Edit: is actually about 20% higher than the official covid deaths. Was looking at some tables with wrong info.

      If we go by excess deaths the US is at 800k and Russia at over 1 million.

        The number shown on that graph for the US is literally impossible. We’re at 880k official covid deaths, there’s absolutely no way we’re only at 900k excess deaths

        Edit: That’s the google number, Worldometers says we’re already over 900k official deaths. That graph is literally comparing confirmed US covid deaths to other countries excess mortality wtf

          Went and looked for some more stuff, the excess mortality in the US is was 987k at the turn of the new year according to the CDC, 205k of which weren't attributed to covid. This is still way less of a lag than I was expecting, especially if we compare it to Russia where the official covid deaths are 330k and the excess mortality is around 1 million.

          It drives me up the wall. What is the closest word they use to what we mean by "political." Honestly creates so much confusion trying to talk to people. IMO one of the best ways to get people onto the left is to convince them that everything is political but these :LIB: :brainworms: make things so much harder

    Jesus Christ, that's awful (the excess death count).

    Those comments are awful as well, in a different sense.
