This is a "teardown lot". It's zoned multifamily so a developer is gonna buy it and put in the most units they can get for the money. Not saying the price isn't outrageous but this explains it some

A tech bro is a potential buyer in Palo Alto and he's checking out the "house"...

Tech bro: "So for 1.2 - I get a lot and a ratty, burnt foundation?"

Real estate agent: "Consider that the fire gave you a gift. You don't have to pay to knock down the house. It's already happened."

      Tech bro: "Hmmm..."

In our current bizarro world reality I've been trying really hard not to make Onion jokes. But fuck me - the first few sentences could be directly from the Onion...

The online listing for a $1.5 million home in Mountain View advises potential buyers that “opportunity knocks for your own design and creativity" and to “bring your architect, builder, and your imagination.” But there’s also a stern warning: “enter at your own risk.” That's because the home is being sold as a charred shell following a fire three years ago.

Its way worse now even than it was in 2018. Literally completely fucking unlivable. 10,000 people living in cars and its gotta be more than that in tents

How are things in East Palo Alto? I think at one point they had the highest per capita murder rate in the nation.

What an insane country the US is.

Last I checked? Still poor, still got the old look to it. But its changing. Last time I was there I saw a guy smoke meth while walking through the mcdonalds drive through but there's so many companies there, its on the way to fucked

Some suburbanite designer in the 40’s decided that suburbs ought to be “communal” and that fences were the true cause of all this “un-neighborly” behavior

          Now you're talkin'.

I've been wondering for years what would happen if a bunch of commies bought up every house around a residential block and proceeded to build just this.

Not in the US, especially in the suburbs. In some places, they put regulations such as fencing can only be done in the backyard.

As someone who has lived on the West Coast in some greater or lesser degree of urban pressure for most of my life, this checks out. If I were looking for a house and could even imagine having that kind of scratch, I'd probably consider buying it. Sure, the house needs either extensive repair or replacement, but it's still probably cheaper than most options for purchase, even after fixing/replacing. Although if it is a multiresident lot, it probably isn't worth it, since you'd have to rebuild with a much more expensive building. And then you'd have to either flip it or become a professional leech.

at least it includes the land

i suspect you'd not find something with land that is as nice as that in Boston
