The classic question.

Rules: This is a fight in an arena, you are unarmed, you cannot leave the arena until every other animal is dead, and while the animals are as intelligent as normal they do understand that they’re fighting you and will try to do so, they won’t just run away.

duck sized horses are basically fighting a baby goat, a horse sized duck is fighting a velociraptor

Duck sized horses for sure. The weaknesses of a duck (thin neck and legs) are shored up by being made larger while the strengths of a horse (the powerful bite and kicks) are nearly fully negated by being shrunk down. I'd rather fight a horse sized duck than a horse sized horse though.

1 horse sized duck. Thanks to the square cube law, it will immediately crumple as its physiology runs afoul of its massively increased size. Then I will tap it with my toe and claim victory :very-intelligent:

Yeah, non-bird dinosaurs were like an amalgamation of reptiles and birds. I think sauropods were even theorized to use airsacs like pneumatic pumps to get blood to their head.

you dont become largest land animal ever by an order of magnitude above the competition by being heavy and inefficient

much larger birds and theropods than a duck are perfectly capable of standing, and for their weight bird bones are very strong to be able to support the strain of gigantic flight muscles while also minimizing the weight they must lift.

yeah, but those animals evolved in a way that let them handle the weight, whereas a duck magically growing to the size of a horse hasn't had however many million years to accommodate the needs of a bigger, heavier body

those animals are its ancestor and it retains many of the features that allowed them to be that size, it may not be optimized and couldnt live a full healthy life if simply scaled up but it wouldnt crumple like paper and would have long enough to crush you in its bill or crack your skull with its wing.

Idk been taking the duckpill since answering the first question and according to years-old farming forums their legs are already very weak and prone to injury, so the scaling might be enough to cause a collapse, especially if it has to speedwaddle after me

I would simply debate both choices in the marketplace of ideas and intellectually massacre them

A 1-ton bird is a straight up dinosaur and I've had enough run-ins with geese and swans to know better than to fuck with that. gimme the horses

just imaging the mechanics of it, trying to kill a horse-sized fluffer with bare hands would be a trauma for life (to say nothing of it bashing my scull with its powerful beak being the likeliest scenario). it's probably easier to defeat 100 tiny horses, their legs is the weak spot and at that size disparity probably pretty easy to break

i would rather fight just about anything than 1200-2000 lb bird. there's no chance at "winning". and you know you'd get swallowed mostly whole and then get mashed up in the darkness of their gizzard.

that's just not how i am gonna go out. if i saw a bird that big, i'm taking a header off a building.

I wasn't able to comment on yesterday's topic, but I'll say it now as this is something I've put much thought into. I could definitely beat a mountain lion, but nothing more. Even at their largest, mountain lions are only 220 pounds, and while it will likely severely maim me in the process, I believe that I would land the killing blow first.

Also 100 duck sized horses is clearly the easier fight, but I would rather fight the duck sized horse, as I would savor the opportunity to fell such a mighty beast.

I believe that I would land the killing blow first.

That's exactly the thought that would be going through your head when the lion sinks its fangs into your neck, piercing your spinal chord and instantly paralyzing you from the neck down.

Cougars get all their advantage from being able to launch a sneak attack from some sort of cover. Put one out in the open and it's vitals are going to be far more exposed than mine, and a well placed attack would likely mean a short fight

100 duck sized horses. I'd punt them carefully one by one. And what could they even do, try to bite me? Give me mild kicks and then fall over? I'd just have to wear thick boots and motorcycle pants.

I have no chance against a 400kg duck.

I wouldn't be able to kill a horse-sized anything with my bare hands so it must be the 100 duck-sized horses.

Also, a horse-sized duck would be a nightmarish abomination whereas duck-sized horses would actually be quite cute.
