My current employers talk like my job is a favor they're doing for me. When I tried to unionize, they acted like I was breaching some sacred trust we had. They said the same thing, that a union would just exploit me for dues and make me attend meetings.

I like how varied the employer types are, both the lazy and the over-qualified are vulnerable, huh? Both activist, rebellious complainers and footloose chill people with no obligations. Sounds like everyone wants a union.

my small business owner boss described employees at another restaurant asking for higher wages as "extortion." these people live in cloud cuckooland.

My dipshit cousin owns a burger restaurant in my small hometown, probably the only burgers in a 30 mile radius, so he gets business no matter how terrible the food is. This has gone to his head and he believes himself to be a business genius. He had to start raising wages and give PTO when covid started, because the teenage workers were always getting sick or staying home to take care of parents. My cousin tried suing some of the employees for quitting, at one point he described the mass quitting as "organized crime."

I like how they pretend that their concern is that a union would be bad for you, the worker. If it were really only bad for the worker they wouldn't give a shit whatsoever.

Oh yeah, my employers would never talk to me about other purported scams like essential oils or gambling addiction. Unions are the only time they're concerned with how I'd spend my money.

My job already does that. Unions sound terrible.
