I'm sure namecheap will be banning all American citizens for the various war crimes of the American government any day now.

God, I could not imagine the fucking public meltdown if some random internet service no one had ever heard of pulled this shit for US citizens

People pre-payed namecheap for years of service because they were paranoid that if they waited much longer, they're credit cards won't work outside of Russia. Now they are forced to move their domains/VPSs/webhosting to a Russian webhost. Anyone running an anti-war or anti-Putin website must now do it under Putin's eye.

Namecheap CEO is a fucking dumbass. Just gave away all their customer's to whatever oligarch owns the biggest Russian webhost. Putin thanks him for his generous economic stimulus package.

Also, now I know that namecheap will boot me off their service with zero days notice for whatever cherry-picked whims their CEO feels this week.

I forgot to mention, I think less than a week ago namecheap sent out an email about web3/NFTs. I was already wondering if I should move all my domains/services to another company just for that...

I must be unsubscribed from the marketing emails b/c i did not see this one. can't even imagine where i'd try to migrate my domains to, i feel like most of the registrars are shitty to deal with.

"businesses rushing to adopt a metaverse strategy" lmaooooooooo yeah b/c it's a make-work program for middle managers to appear busy. Including the middle managers of namecheap.

While we sympathize that this war may not affect your own views or opinion on the matter, the fact is, your authoritarian government is committing human rights abuses and engaging in war crimes so this is a policy decision we have made and will stand by

So first off, this is just :zizek-ok: pure ideology, but also it's the exact rationale used to justify all sanctions. Yeah, the people aren't guilty for it but we're gonna punish them anyway.

Love how someone is like "uhh I am a Russian opposing the government and this is about to fuck me over"

and the CEO is like OHHHHHHH WHOOPS THATS WEIRD SEND ME AN EMAIL SO I CAN MAKE AN INDIVIDUAL EXCEPTION, I CLEARLY NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS

If they didn't want their domains taken away, they should have just pulled themselves up by their bootstraps and :vote:d harder!

its insane the level of acceptance westerners have that the sanctions against russia are mask-off admitted on national news that they are intended to hurt the lives of millions of people

The CEO: "People that are getting angry need to point that at the cause, their own government."

One of the replies: "Believe me, I'm very angry at my government. Unlike you, I've been protesting the regime for several years, putting my health and well-being at risk. I've donated thousands of dollars to anti-regime organizations. And I'm currently in the process of fleeing the country because of this.

So I'm also very angry at you, for screwing me over when I'm in a really fucking vulnerable position, as well as hundreds other developers who depended on your company."

This just goes to prove that americans don't understand the concepts of democracy or authoritarianism if they can't wrap their heads around how an autocrat may unilaterally drag an entire country to war and leave common folks without any recourse. Antidemocratic, regime, authoritarianism, these are just words americans throw against countries they personally detest. They mean nothing.

That's just the line they say when told they're harming people. They don't actually believe it.

The only way to consoom HN is through the lens of /r/ProgrammingCircleJerk purely because the post titles break down the spiciest takes in the threads so you don't have to wade through them yourself.

I guess the person who used to derisively summarize HN has decided to do better things in life, but it used to be a good summary. http://n-gate.com/

this take can be deconstructed just with this one line alone. yeah, it's fucked to do this to people who can't do anything to stop the government, but even more simply and beyond that point, if this is how you really feel, then do it to america and every other imperialist nation.

oh but they won't because it's a personal pet issue of the ceo and he FEELS like he has to do something this time. when it's america it's FREEDOM baby.
