China might mediate is the quote "[Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba] said China has played a constructive role on this issue and that Ukraine is ready to step up communication with the Chinese side. He looked forward to China’s mediation efforts for the ceasefire."

God damn if China is the one to mediate this, talk about a new era in geopolitics.

And imagine the discourse in American politics. Libs would treat it as the end of the world. Any deal Ukraine gets would be China and Russia "taking over their government and the world." Repubs would be raking the dems over the coals for this for years to come. God damn that shit would be hilarious.

The US is that one Ex who just shits the bed on repeat and gets increasingly more upset/violent at everyone else for their poor choices as reality bites them in the ass.

had an ex that did that and watching him self own was stupidly satisfying. Love winning a break up.

I feel like this sounds ridiculous, but maybe it's an opportunity for them to step in and say something like

"Well the RF isn't going to let you be NATO aligned, that's apparent, and at this point the bridge has been nuked so a Russian puppet government is not going to be very stable at all. We understand that Ukraine needs some sort of assurances for the future, so allow us to step in and offer ....[some such]....., and in return Ukraine will remain strictly neutral (vaguely PRC-aligned, in practice). If you talk about joining NATO ever again the consequences will obviously be immense, and we won't be able to protect you."

      but idk.

I do think China has leverage if they want to mediate. So many infrastructure destruction had happened — and they expect EU and US to help with all that? Plus BRI will in fact make Ukraine the “bridge” between “east” and “west” … BUT the condition of all this is that you’d got to have a (1) somewhat rational and (2) stable Ukrainian government coming out of this. Which …
