Rampant anti-homeless attitudes (which seem to be getting worse as homelessness itself gets worse) makes me so fucking angry and disgusted with people.
I'm sure job applications don't require things like bank accounts or home addresses and even if they did the homeless person can easily get both of them
Don't forget "reliable transportation" which translates to "owning a car that's in working order"
I remember having to read Huckleberry Finn in high school, there was this one guy that went on an "The average man is a coward" rant in the book.
I'm beginning to understand what Twain meant more and more. Americans are needlessly aggressive, but are too scared to stand a decent challenge, so they pick fights they know they'll win.
"Who are the oppressors? The few: the King, the capitalist, and a handful of other overseers and superintendents. Who are the oppressed? The many: the nations of the earth; the valuable personages; the workers; they that make the bread that the soft-handed and idle eat." - Mark Twain
Had to drop this other beautiful quote as well. "No California gentleman or lady ever abuses or oppresses a removed, under any circumstances, an explanation that seems to be much needed in the east. Only the scum of the population do it; they and their children. They, and, naturally and consistently, the policemen and politicians, likewise, for these are the dust-licking pimps and slaves of the scum, there as well as elsewhere in America." - Mark Twain
Look at gun culture. They don't want an even fight. They're hoping to
punchshoot down.America is the wealthiest nation on Earth, but its people are mainly poor, and poor Americans are urged to hate themselves. To quote the American humorist Kin Hubbard, 'It ain’t no disgrace to be poor, but it might as well be.' It is in fact a crime for an American to be poor, even though America is a nation of poor. Every other nation has folk traditions of men who were poor but extremely wise and virtuous, and therefore more estimable than anyone with power and gold. No such tales are told by the American poor. They mock themselves and glorify their betters. The meanest eating or drinking establishment, owned by a man who is himself poor, is very likely to have a sign on its wall asking this cruel question: 'if you’re so smart, why ain’t you rich?' There will also be an American flag no larger than a child’s hand – glued to a lollipop stick and flying from the cash register. Americans, like human beings everywhere, believe many things that are obviously untrue. Their most destructive untruth is that it is very easy for any American to make money. They will not acknowledge how in fact hard money is to come by, and, therefore, those who have no money blame and blame and blame themselves. This inward blame has been a treasure for the rich and powerful, who have had to do less for their poor, publicly and privately, than any other ruling class since, say Napoleonic times. Many novelties have come from America. The most startling of these, a thing without precedent, is a mass of undignified poor. They do not love one another because they do not love themselves.
:vonnegut:
Americans are the least educated and knowledgeable of foreign affairs, languages, and disparate cultures, societies, and social norms among all Westernized countries and the least exposed universally.
I've got nothing against Americans. Some of my best friends are Americans. But would you want your daughter marrying one?
It's so goddamn annoying how utterly resentful, cruel and clueless people like that are. Don't have a permanent address? Good luck getting employment. Don't have multiple forms of ID? Shit out of luck. 1 Felony 20 years ago? Your debts to society arent ever over. Can't keep clothes or even clean them or yourself? Bootstraps.
There is tons of shit honestly, I've have long conversations with unhoused people about stuff like this and there are so many hurdles on top of individual ones which can vary quite drastically. But like the other thing is dead end terrible jobs can make a person so goddamn depressed, I really don't blame practically anybody for not wanting to work at places like Walmart, it's a really easy way to end up back on the wagon if you've ever had substance issues or trigger serious mental issues.
I'm about to rant cause this image reminded me about how i had a coworker at a grocery store I worked with who suffered from constant seizures that triggered the more stressed they were. He was on the ground one day having a seizure one of the assistant managers said to us helping him, "God he is so lazy, just get over it" while he wasn't even fully conscious. He can go on disability but if you've ever had to use it you know it's definitely not a livable income and extremely hard to even get on top of all the crap they prevent you from doing. So much baggage with our disability system
Disability is such a catch 22, you get on disability and its not enough to live on so you try and work part time as well and they're like, oh you can work you don't need disability :agony-mescaline:
Reminded of the city in Northern Macedonia, Rusinovo, which was constructed by Soviets in the 1940s specifically to accommodate the blind.
Like, this is something we can do to make life both comfortable and accessible to disabled people. But we'd rather build football stadiums and F-35s instead, then dunk on disabled people for being a drain on the country.
Like the old saying goes, society can be judged on how it treats its most vulnerable.
Why's ID such a hurdle? Lots of people work without ID. You don't even need one to vote.
imagine thinking a Walmart job pays enough to not need aid. guy panhandling is probably an assistant manager.
I got fired from Walmart because I was suffering severe depression and just stayed in bed for a couple days. When I came in and got fired I went out in to the parking lot and was in tears, cheering, because even though I knew rent was due and I didn't have food money I was just that glad not to be working there.
and then they fire him on day 2 for being 20 seconds late due to not having reliable transportation
Smug CHUDs: "fucking idiots just get a job."
Me: "Okay"
Sends resume and cover letter to fucking McDonalds
McDonalds: "Sorry, we only hire the best."
Me: "told ya."
For reference, I do have a job so don't worry about me being in any financial insecurity (although the pay sucks).
Being a beggar is a job. You've got to have the right sales pitch, the right tattered clothes, the right location. You have work hours and if it's raining, you can't work (much like construction). Many people think that begging isn't a job, but it is: the product beggars sell is the approval of your own conscience. Are you the kind of person who can walk by a person in need and fail to give?
My brother went through two rounds of interviews at Walmart and was denied a job.
These motherfuckers are putting people through multiple rounds of interviews?
They should honestly be begging on their hands and knees for people to just show up and maybe be sober some of the time
Bruh as long as you don't smoke crack in the bathroom on break walmart should be trying to hire you.
Walmart
two rounds of interviews
:agony-deep: :agony-deep: :agony-deep:
Was thinking the same thing, shame pictures don't come with audio (not that they'd include the audio if they could)
Hilarious how the post says "Conservatives Only"
What happened to my free speech
The man, not having a permanent address, would not be able to get past the first few pages of the online eApplication.
Any manager that was approached by somebody looking for a job would be directed to sit down at a kiosk and spend an hour or two filling out the application (assuming they had basic information requirements met). The manager wouldn't give a "desperate worker" the time of day.
Either way (but especially if he doesn't get paid), I'd be very comfortable calling him a scab
I don't think so. I think he's just being a dick. Probably unaffiliated with Wal-Mart.
