Americans are so unbelievably self centered

My pet theory is that a significant chunk of Americans never figured out how to properly wear one and still use garbage that either doesn't fit properly or is too tight and digs into the ears. During the first month or so of covid I kinda had this struggle when masks in general were legitimately hard to find and I know people who share this sentiment

2 years in and I’m still seeing senior citizens leaving their mask dangling under their chin.

“If it’s uncomfortable, you’re allowed to take it all the way off, now.”

        “No, I’m good.”

look up "face mask strap extender", just little strap with loops on both ends that attach to the mask

          they saved my ears

it goes across the top of the back of your head, nothing touches your ears

Ah, I think it’s my big head. The extender I tried wasn’t big enough so it slipped down to my neck.

There's ones with the strap that go around the back of your head instead of your ears

I also don't use the ear loop ones because they make my ears hurt

I don't really understand it either, but it made me realize I wasn't just being cynical all my life, the culture of the USA really is that removedd and fucking warped

I read a tweet a while ago that is applicable:

“They should have never told Americans wearing masks was to protect other people, know yoir audience.”

I think about it every goddamn day

Every day I wonder if the CDC should have just lied and told Americans covid19 causes erectile dysfunction and kills 50% of everyone it infects, also it has a 100% transmission rate. Us Americans don't seem to understand anything except dire immediate certainty.

The craziest thing this pandemic has shown me is how much people straight up follow rules. Like who the fuck would think any health official in any western country has any idea on how to handle this pandemic at this point? If they say take masks off, I'll superglue mine on

on the other hand I'm tired a lot of the time and have neither the expertise nor desire to keep on top of epidemiology. I don't care how the virus works I want someone who does to tell me what to do about it

I mean, the alternative is being tased, arrested, pissing yourself and being dragged off the plane, I don't really blame people for blindly following rules all the time.

They don't though. They skirt them as much as possible. They do the dog's paw inside the kitchen. They leave it under their nose.

There’s no more concise refutation of the libertarian ideology that the market will reward safety than the gleeful swiftness with which airlines dropped mask mandates at the first available opportunity.

A LOT of people are going to die, soon.

Libertarians be like "communism will never work because humans are selfish", but then hinges the survival of their system on people being nice and not trying to actively kill society.

They literally should’ve already been required on transit, pandemic or no. Why the fuck is anyone happy about this. Why are Americans such fucking loser babies

So they want to get sick and die instead? I mean the mask might be uncomfortable, but I'm sure that the ventilator is more uncomfortable.

      Lmao

Over a million COVID 19 deaths in America people, over 0.3% of the population. Literally a worse case scenario.

Americans are the most brainwashed population in history. Brainwashed into killing themselves and everyone around them.

People don't want to get sick and die or wear masks. The media has drastically cut reporting on COVID, everything is opening back up, and it generally feels like the pandemic is behind us. Of course, it's not behind us and this behavior is going to lead to an increase in cases and deaths. I think the public perception has shifted though, and people have decided that there are now two options, either COVID is over or it's never going away. Neither of those scenarios encourages mask-wearing because people just decided they weren't going to wear masks forever. Whether it's because COVID is over or because we have to just accept it as part of our lives moving forward, now they have an excuse to stop.

One of the things I noticed during the pandemic is that a large portion of Americans think they're invincible.

I understand not wearing masks 24/7, but a plane is the one place where you could argue mask wearing should extend past other restrictions. It just shows how efficient the brainwashing though the media is as you said

Yeah I hear you. I think I'm at the point where I'm just going to wear one on planes and trains for the rest of my life. Even if COVID did somehow go away, it's not like I want to get a regular flu or cold. Plus, contrary to whiney babies, wearing a mask really isn't that annoying.

      Yeah of course they did.

No one wants to use the toilet and the moment someone says they don’t have to 90% of people are gonna poop their pants.

Nine out of the other ten percent are just brokebrained ding dongs who assigned some moral goodness to being toilet trained and don’t want to be like the bad kind of person who doesn’t.

Imagine being on a plane and someone says they got bin laden or that the government just passed mortgage crisis relief. Of course people cheered!
