The secret inner council (I forget the official name of it, but whatever) gets to decide how to decide a replacement candidate. There's no formal guideline for selection. Could be anyone, really. What fun.

There is no way they would ever volunteer Bernie to be the nominee. They would rather lose.
he's been dead since April, this is a holographic simulation that also has dementia
gonna wake up one morning to hear that joe biden has croaked only to be replaced none other than hillary rodham clinton
If I was part of the DNC leadership I'd have already pre-recorded enough footage of Biden speaking to get through the election and possibly the state of the union.
he doesn't have to make public appearances. they can just deepfake it.
There's nothing in the rule book that says a golden retriever can't be the nominee
Kamala is the nominee now that the convention has happened. Had it happened before the convention, Bidens delegates would've been completely released and could've voted for any candidate on the ballot. However, to be on the ballot you needed 300 pledged delegates so Bernie would've been the candidate.
DNC rules are that if Presidential nominee becomes ineligible for the office after nomination, the Vice Presidential nominee is the nominee for President. It'd be Kamala. RNC has same rule.
Sanders does not want to be president. He would get behind kamala in an instant
