archive.today • Opinion | Will Gaza Cost Biden Re-election? - The New York Times

In the final paragraph she finally says what she really thinks.

Given how catastrophic another Trump term would be — including in Israel, where the far right fantasizes about his return — I find people who threaten to withhold their votes from Biden maddening. But if Democrats want them to come around, listening to them will be more effective than lecturing them.

I know I'm preaching to the choir but every single time a liberal encounters a protest they don't like that's working - they make me want to scream. They demand that it end immediately. No shit. That's the entire point! They want every such protest to be peaceful, ineffectual, and absolutely utterly pointless so that they can go back to brunch.

They are losing their minds that “I won’t vote for someone conducting genocide” is an absolute moral position

When it comes to Biden, dems, and liberals I keep saying "I keep underestimating how bad they are." But time passes and I found I've made the same mistake yet again.

Seriously though - I would have thought being anti-genocide would be a position even liberals could understand. But here we are.

Its also the last meritocracy believers, the striver types who become PMC and make just enough and recieve enough treats and perks that they still believe their interests are compatible with the interests of financial capital. Thats the real base of the party, just like the beautiful boaters are the base of team red

Eh, outside of literal Washington insiders I don’t even think that’s true. I’m surrounded by PMC striver types (just not literal operatives of the DNC) and it’s so obvious that the Dems don’t believe in meritocracy.

Biden is so plainly incompetent that it’s hard to believe that these are the people upholding a system that allows the best to rise to the top.

They want to live in a world where bad things only happen to bad people and the system works perfectly and requires no maintenance or effort from the people. They also think that if they just ignore problems, they can pretend to live in this world. I think this is why Trump made them lose their minds. Trump is really, really good at being impossible to ignore. So for a brief moment, they had to face the reality of their country, what it was actually like, and they hated it. This is why they are acting like a second Trump term will be apocalyptic. Because it will force them to actually engage with reality for a change.

I don't believe her. I think she's simply trying to seem reasonable. She's written a number of "If Trump wins..." scare columns. She's surely still going to write at least half a dozen more. When/if Biden makes a super-minor request (not even a demand) that the Israelis cut the genocide by ~1% - she'll write a column that will be rushed to print. She'll say it's time for people understand Biden is doing all he can and Americans must vote for him to save democracy.

Liberal pundits all suffer from Trump derangement syndrome. They can't stop themselves from mentioning Trump every single fucking time the genocide in Gaza is brought up.

"Yeah, okay, fine - the situation in Gaza is catastrophic. But have you considered that Trump would be catastrophic for the US and that Israel loves Trump?"

Israel doesn't need Trump to realize their fantasies, they're realizing it perfectly fine under Biden, the only way for Trump to make the genocide worse is to drop nukes, but somehow I doubt that's gonna happen, just like I doubt libs with oppose Trump if it did happen

“people who threaten to withhold their votes from Biden”

democrats are entitled to 100% of the :vote: and everyone else is ontologically evil and needs to be at least shamed if not outright killed, and this goes double for non-USians

In capitalist country where things are based on supply and demand and responding to market forces, we must vote as though we obligated because it's a moral necessity.

Yes indeed. As a non-USian, the sheer vitriol from yank libs when they find out I'm not voting for Biden is stunning. They literally don't seem to comprehend that I am completely incapable of doing so, and keep demanding I vote for him. Their brains are completely rotted through at this point.

Proudly not going to vote for Biden in Michigan... Nor any other state. According to vote-shaming logic, that entails another 50 votes for Trump! If you're looking for someone to blame Trump's victory on, I guess it's me

Great, now you've done it. The lathe probably heard you so Biden will die and the DNC will nominate the world heroine, light unto itself, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and you're going to feel real dumb because this comment contractually obligates you to vote for her but it won't be a meme.

    The choice is obvious!

Lol the Israeli/Zionist far right is already materially benefitting from Biden being in office. The only difference is that Trump will be more gleeful about committing genocide instead of pretending to be meek and powerless.

It’s also not just Israel. Democrats won’t even appeal to the Americans who don’t give a shit about genocide and just want affordable food and housing. They’re going all in on Israel and Ukraine. I haven’t heard a single thing come out their mouths except those two countries, and more recently wanting to let conservative brutalize refugees.

Between this and 2016 when it (helped) cost Hillary the election Michigan is really becoming an actual litmus test for just how shitty a democratic candidate can be before there's actual consequences.

White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre grew visibly annoyed with persistent questions about the "highly targeted and minimally invasive" air strikes authorized by Biden in Dearborn, Michigan.

"Look - our democracy must be protected. Human lives were protected as best possible. But a little bit of blood and a little bit of suffering is nothing compared to another Trump term. I hope certain individuals in Dearborn understand what's at stake in the next election. The destruction of some buildings such as mosques were necessary. The facilities were a nerve center for Arab-Am—. Pardon me. Pardon me. Hamas-Americans. But to be frank - not that there's much difference. We must move on. No more questions on this. No more. There will be a Pentagon briefing in one hour - ask your questions on this topic there. At this point I must insist that we move on..."

There is one thing Biden could do to stop the danger: He could be more racist. White working class voters all love racism, I've been told. If you don't want Biden to be more racist you're being elitist and essentially supporting Trump.
