Alpha-gal ( which is named for the molecule it affects, I think?) actually causes other problems beyond just inability to eat meat. I think it is technically true that you wouldn't be affected if you were the absolute perfect vegan, but in practice, nearly unavoidable cross-contamination in miniscule amounts can cause a severe reaction. For example, sugar can sometimes trigger it, as it is sometimes processed over animal bones. Or certain medicines, like anti-venom. Or many common painkillers, including formulations of Tylenol and Aleve, some vaccines, some cancer drugs...

Personally, I think it's quite scary, even for vegans.

The proliferation of collective animals feed operations is a major contributer to climate change. Then we get a pandemic that affects people's sense of taste. And now there's a tick that gives you a meat allergy specifically?

I think the universe is trying to tell us something. Not sure what though.

I love that they are all so accepting of the diarrhea.

Like obviously you will have several weeks of violent, violent liquid shits but after that it's smooth sailing until the heart attacks

Yeah exactly, it's just the pain before the gain, bro! Trust me, it's worth it.

On that note--CW: Gross digestion stuff

          spoiler

I've been vegan for five years now, and pretty quickly became whole foods plant based cuz I wanted to lose some weight (and it worked!). But an unintended (positive) side effect of going vegan is that the awful stomach aches and subsequent diarrhea I used to get a handful of times each year went away completely (I was vegetarian before this, so it had to be from cutting out the dairy).

I also used to absolutely hate taking shits because my stool was usually hard as rocks and the act of shitting often made my ass bleed. As soon as I went vegan, that problem disappeared completely. I'm sure it was probably less of a vegan thing and more of a "I'm eating way more fiber now" thing, but still--eat more plants, folks (especially :bean: ), they're good for you. 93% of American adults don't get enough fiber.

chuds getting alpha-gal’d and no longer being able to eat 16 hot dogs for dinner every night is just too perfect.

If only the government would do something that proactive to fight climate change.
