Never finished it...but holy shit it's gorgeous and I totally need to at some point. I never played league of legends and I never will probably...but I am super interested in the fighting game they're working on due to the talent they have behind it and the fact that a lot of the character designed are super cool. I can definitely see myself being chained to this universe in a big way for years if the game is as good as it's looking.

I tried picking it up after Arcane. Every champion was more frustrating to play against than the last and the community was as toxic as the memes suggest. I had a bad time. I love everything Riot makes except the games

The problem with mobas that have been out this long is they have to keep releasing characters like a drip line of morphine to keep people interested and it results in a ton of bloat. New players are then tasked with gaining at least a passing familiarity with all 150+ characters skill sets because that's essentially half the game, if you don't know what the other guy does you're going to have a bad time. I haven't played in like a decade but I would frequently use characters that were widely considered bad or had low play rates in certain roles because people weren't experienced on how to counter them.

Fun fact: this is fighting games in a nutshell also. In the online leader boards for Injustice: Gods Among Us I was actually in the top 10 consistently for that games prime, and the only Green Arrow main in the top 100.

Playing a low tier character taught me a lot and it felt really good bopping flowchart Manhunters or Aquamens but man...as soon as I got matched with forever king or wound cowboy or anyone who bothered to lab the matchout out where I couldn't bullshit gimick my way through it....Arrow life was rough.

It's pretty fun if you have group of 4/5 to play with, otherwise that shit is cancerous

League of legends does have a fairly large amount of lore that is released for all the characters, although none of it (besides the characters voice lines maybe) is present in the game. I think the way it works lore wise is that the actual game you play isn’t cannon (think smash bros).

Arcane was centred on the lore of Jinx and Vi although it made some large (and definitely good) revisions to it.

Does League of Legends even have a story?

its a fairly generic fantasy setting with a handful of standout differences. so any sort of fantasy setting based story will work

The story is basically the same and pretty much everything but the specific plot of Arcane came from it. League's story is one part everyone agrees is good to the point that when they ended up making the universe's equivalent to rise of the Lich King discount infinity war the entire community revolted. Arcane came out directly after that mess. Keep in mind that the main game itself is literally the standard of MOBAs so none of this is really "in game" aside from events. There's a bunch of side games/comics/ ect that is better able to show of the universe.

I think it does and it maybe sort of does have to do with the game? Never played but I do remember reading something once that when LOL was originally released they had some basic lore and backstory but it was kind of vestigial, and then when it blew up and they started trying to cross market they retconned and rebooted their lore entirely to be something more interesting?
