    I really enjoyed it.

Fun fact it’s not actually CGI at all, that’s why it took like 6 years to make 9 episodes

nah CGI wouldn't be the perfect word but its definitionally computer-gen when you have 3d assets for as much as they do, its not the odd CG stand-in for a complicated-to-draw object you'd see in 90s-2000s animation,

all the characters and moving parts of scenes are 3d. no denying huge amounts, possibly the most ever in a style like this is 2d art, and its extraordinarily well done---but it ain't not CG

yeah it is pretty good! What surprised me was how almost all the characters were compelling, except for Heimmerdinger or however it's spelled, him just constantly saying :blob-stop: without justifying himself and going :surprised-pika: when seeing poverty was really annoying.

His voice is less annoying than in the game, if you can believe it.

And yeah, the show didn't go into it, but in the backstory mages came extremely close to destroying the world, and he was there to see it. In the even older lore that's not canon anymore, magic was a metaphor for nuclear weapons- the Rune Wars were basically nuclear war and Runeterra was extremely lucky to have survived.

EDIT: The old lore was that, because the world couldn't survive another Rune War, all existing states got together and agreed to have everything decided by making champions from each faction fight on behalf of their faction, which is what the game is. They had a pro match decide the direction the lore would go in at one point, it was actually kinda cool. New lore is that the matches are just entirely non-canon.

            I did too.

I still think about how much worse the lore for Warwick and Soraka was after they reworked it

Also the janky and not so self serious lore was also just kind of nice. The game had a lot more charm before it was a billion dollar company.

I found it extremely compelling how weighty the combat and even non-combat scenes felt. Every object actually had an implied mass, deformed when struck together, bounced believably... It was the most 'kinetic' animation-type show I've seen in a long while.

Later they even play with disconnecting the mass from weight through hextec which makes that stuff look so much more powerful.

I really liked it, which was shocking.

Only part I didn't like was the sex scene implying Jayce would ever go down. We all know he wouldn't.

EDIT: Oh also, didn’t like how Jinx’s mental health was portrayed.

But anyway, here’s hoping that Season 2 has Camille and Orianna.

Nah, it's more that fuckboys like Jayce don't eat pussy. I think you kind of have to go into the show knowing how he's portrayed in the game to get it lol.

probable spoilers for Season 2 based on the game's backstory

So in the game, Jayce was released before Viktor, and his lore talked about how he was a very clear-cut hero, always fighting against his eternal enemy, the dastardly Viktor. Then Viktor was released with actual compelling backstory and reasons for what he was doing (the show amped this up and made Viktor even more sympathetic), and Riot basically outright said "yeah, Jayce's lore is his in-universe PR. He kinda sucks"

shit was gorgeous and extremely well done for what it is.

dunno if they can pull off a second season after exhausting/concluding the most compelling arc

they are making a season 2 but

        spoiler

its just the jinx/vi arc concluded to irreconcilable enemies and there's not too much more territory there, imo. maybe the larger plot can make up for it or some of the side characters will somehow be made interesting :shrug-outta-hecks:

Vi is going to brunch with Caitlyn sorry not sorry 💅

i don't want them to re-tread the Jinx redemption stuff that was the core of season 1 and she did a big terrorism & started a war to put it to bed. She probably killed Mel :powercry-2:

              1. ACAB so Vi would need the redemption

              2. the government is [redacted] in a Netflix show so that's another point for Jinx

              3. I see your point and I hate it

              4. Mel is probably alive tho

I love that show. Completely blown away by it. Not only is it the best video game adaptation I’ve ever seen, it’s the best show I’ve seen in years.

There are two types of video games. Those that everybody hates and those that no one plays.

Never finished it...but holy shit it's gorgeous and I totally need to at some point. I never played league of legends and I never will probably...but I am super interested in the fighting game they're working on due to the talent they have behind it and the fact that a lot of the character designed are super cool. I can definitely see myself being chained to this universe in a big way for years if the game is as good as it's looking.

I tried picking it up after Arcane. Every champion was more frustrating to play against than the last and the community was as toxic as the memes suggest. I had a bad time. I love everything Riot makes except the games

The problem with mobas that have been out this long is they have to keep releasing characters like a drip line of morphine to keep people interested and it results in a ton of bloat. New players are then tasked with gaining at least a passing familiarity with all 150+ characters skill sets because that's essentially half the game, if you don't know what the other guy does you're going to have a bad time. I haven't played in like a decade but I would frequently use characters that were widely considered bad or had low play rates in certain roles because people weren't experienced on how to counter them.

Fun fact: this is fighting games in a nutshell also. In the online leader boards for Injustice: Gods Among Us I was actually in the top 10 consistently for that games prime, and the only Green Arrow main in the top 100.

Playing a low tier character taught me a lot and it felt really good bopping flowchart Manhunters or Aquamens but man...as soon as I got matched with forever king or wound cowboy or anyone who bothered to lab the matchout out where I couldn't bullshit gimick my way through it....Arrow life was rough.

League of legends does have a fairly large amount of lore that is released for all the characters, although none of it (besides the characters voice lines maybe) is present in the game. I think the way it works lore wise is that the actual game you play isn’t cannon (think smash bros).

Arcane was centred on the lore of Jinx and Vi although it made some large (and definitely good) revisions to it.

Does League of Legends even have a story?

its a fairly generic fantasy setting with a handful of standout differences. so any sort of fantasy setting based story will work

The story is basically the same and pretty much everything but the specific plot of Arcane came from it. League's story is one part everyone agrees is good to the point that when they ended up making the universe's equivalent to rise of the Lich King discount infinity war the entire community revolted. Arcane came out directly after that mess. Keep in mind that the main game itself is literally the standard of MOBAs so none of this is really "in game" aside from events. There's a bunch of side games/comics/ ect that is better able to show of the universe.

I think it does and it maybe sort of does have to do with the game? Never played but I do remember reading something once that when LOL was originally released they had some basic lore and backstory but it was kind of vestigial, and then when it blew up and they started trying to cross market they retconned and rebooted their lore entirely to be something more interesting?
