This is so bad it’s almost funny, found it trying to find a link for the other finland post, a great article to send to anyone who believes in the fact checking services, like they were nazis, but they just really liked the shape of it so it’s not a nazi thing sweaty, it was a completely different alt right figure who introduced it

However, it is wrong to claim the flag demonstrates Finland condoning Nazism, historians and the Finnish Air Force say; although Helsinki did ally with Nazi Germany between 1941 to 1944 to fight off Soviet invasion.

A Finnish Air Force spokesperson told Reuters the swastika in the Finnish Air Force flag featured in the photos was introduced in 1918 – before Nazism rose in Europe.

“The first aircraft of the Finnish Air Force, a Thulin Typ D reconnaissance aircraft, was donated by [Swedish count] Eric von Rosen in 1918,” the spokesperson explained.

Hmm, who is this Eric von Rosen guy? Wonder why they don't include a citation for him?

    Oh

    Ah

    How interesting

I guess they do mention it at the end, but they really bury that lede as deep as they fucking can huh. "Not a Nazi symbol because Germany wasn't openly fascist the moment that it was put on a Finnish plane by a founding member of the Nazi party"

Literally just mentioned this in the other thread. The ultranationalist ideology was fermenting in Europe for decades before the nazi party was made, the symbol was in use by the far right within those groups along with a bunch of others. It didn't just magically pop out of Hitler's head.

The entire history of what led up to Hitler in Europe is just conveniently ignored by liberals. They pretend that Hitler was evil and popped into existence and that there wasn't a huge thing that led up to him lasting decades across the entire continent.

Helsinki did ally with Nazi Germany between 1941 to 1944 to fight off Soviet invasion.

This is basically how every finn considers the war, "smol bean finland uwu allied with the nazis owo to fight off soviets"

Ignoring how the continuation war was LITERALLY an offensive war to help the nazis. Well atleast the red army just bulldozed through the defensive line they spent 3 years building in a few weeks :data-laughing:

False... The originator of the emblem, became later a Nazi sympathizer, but he was Swedish.

:data-laughing: holy shit, this is pure "rate it fifty pinocchios" energy

Whether one likes it or not, at the end of the blind alley that is Europe, I mean the Europe of Adenauer, Schuman, Bidault, and a few others, there is Hitler. At the end of capitalism, which is eager to outlive its day, there is Hitler. At the end of formal humanism and philosophic renunciation, there is Hitler.

    :yea:

Piling on a bit but who cares? Even if your beloved symbol was adopted with the best intentions when the connotation changes maybe you fucking change it too? Just out of common decency?

US also had swastikas on their gear before the war. Also a not uncommon symbol in some old architecture.

To some extent it was a common symbol. But that it hasn’t been removed is the bigger question.

Its a hostage situation. Not voting for democrats as a minority while still believing in liberal democracy is tantamount to accepting being torn apart by the feral hogs the democrats promise they are keeping on a leash.

Ah I see. It's not in support of the Nazis at all! Which Finland also did support, incidentally. It's because a Nazi founded the Finnish Air Force, and they adopted the swastika in support of that Nazi. A very important distinction!
