Me [F] and techbroworker [M] having be employed at the same place for months. He's seemed pretty cool but also never revealed any clues about political affiliations or dogwhistles until today. We've had pretty good experiences in the few times we needed to work together on a ticket.
Obviously he's been smart enough to hide his power level for so long, but there is no telling if he's mildly conservative or a raging monarchist/burgundist.
I'm also hiding my power level, call it a six sided grizzly hiding in the shadows if you will. I think nobody knows how much of an extremist communist I am but my mermaid hair and septum piercing and covid19 wearing and openly breasted chestiscles might already be a modern day hammer and sickle to these people.

There are two jokes in my original phrasing, the first is the overly verbose and nonsensical description of boobs. The second is the implication that a reactionary would assume I am far left merely because of my gender.

I get along with just about everyone, but I never really get into my politics unless someone asks me and even then I don't go all in. You just never know who it is you're talking to.

What I find works well to calm people like that down on the reactionaryness is to dunk on them a little as soon as they start to say it out loud. Like before they start to push it more. You gotta make the feel a little dumb and embarrassed to even bring it up. But not like you are insulting them.
Takes practice, idk if it's the easiest way but it's what I do.

It's so dependent on you knowing the person well enough it hard to give a specific example. Some people, you could straight up call them a dumbass to their face and they won't take it as an insult because they know you as a friend. Others, it might be best to compare what they are talking about to someone you both know for being a dumb chud that you both dislike. Or you could predict what they are running up to saying and get ahead of it by talking about people who think that way being mad at the wrong people.
Every person is going to react to what you say differently, you really gotta tailor your response to achieve the goal of making them feel a little dumb and embarrassed, but like you aren't trying to rub it in or make them feel bad. Definitely avoid trying to goad on a reaction or act like you are trying to bully them, that just causes more trouble.
at my old place where I worked in person, I'd usually act like I was completely apolitical and have the chuds try to convince me that trans people and green haired baristas were actually 'the elite.'

Honestly if you live in the imperial core there are a lot of well-intentioned people who are so propagandized they fall into all sorts of holes trying to figure out the world, and that can often mean esoteric right politics.
If you get along well that's much more to build on than most of us have when trying to convince the other side. I think it's much more strategically powerful to be good-natured, friendly and always correct than to cast away people who haven't figured it out yet. There are a lot of people on this site who had weird phases too.
Build your relationship, be right all the time, and capitalize on the fact that he thinks you're cool. Maybe you can convince him, or maybe you just plant a seed that grows within him. Honestly the communists I used to work with have no idea that they brought me to their side.

i have no idea how to be a vocal communist without being annoying, but i think in these situations claiming that space by being bold in your beliefs is the right move.
