After I took a voluntary pay cut then was laid off, my boss didn't tell any of our clients so they were still calling me directly weeks after I had left. I think he's going to go out of business soon.

My dad's former boss did something similar. My dad took those contacts and started his own business. Can you do the same? Your former company wasn't loyal to you, why should you be loyal to them?

I've thought about it, I know a lot of them really liked me and stuck with us (the company) because I did all their work. I know one of the companies just lost their sysadmin who was making more than I was and I've thought about applying there since the NDA/no compete expires in a couple months.

I would look in to how binding your non compete was, in my experience they often aren't very enforcable and easily worked around

Talk to them now, casually. "Hey Bob, I know you've got that opening. I'd love to come work for your company, but my non compete is still in effect . . ." they may be able to help you weasel your way out of it, or may hold it for you.

He fucked my dad over, so he was like, forget the non compete and I won't take you to court. So the small business tyrant backed down, and now my dad is self-employed (and he doesn't have any employees, so he hasn't become a small business tyrant himself). He just had a lawyer he knew write a scary letter and it was all over.

I can’t take that time because if I do, decisions will be made in my absence that could screw my employer on multi-X dollar programs for the next Y no. of years.

Fuck your employer, who cares. You're entitled to your vacation time, just take it and if they lose money that's their problem, not yours.

I like to take pride in my work too, but at a certain point you have to take care of yourself and put yourself first. Capitalism is built on exploitation and your employer is already taking advantage of you, you owe them nothing.

I don't even like to take pride in my work. I couldn't care less about how my boss' personal money line goes. I don't care about the big money line either. Fuck the company.

sure, but vacation ends up being stressful as fuck because you're worried about the shit fest you're gonna come back to

lmao I successfully pivoted myself into almost being relatively important at my job, then they fucked me over (gave the project I was vying for to someone else for absolutely no apparent reason and refused to explain to me why) so I have slowly been dialing back the effort and can you guess how many concerned check-ins I've had with my direct supervisor about my performance decreasing lol.

Yeah if they paid me more I wouldn't really complain but then they go and do some bullshit like "here's half of your yearly bonus applied pre-tax to your paycheck so you only see like 15% of it in reality"

Uncanny stuff. I developed an app for some shit fintech that down the line became essential to their bottom line (thus giving me some importance inside the company and knowledge of a bunch of essential processes that had to be added to the app, which had to be constantly discussed over and over with department heads) and there was a new initiative to develop a brand new app to go with their renovated branding, but I wasn't included in that project because they were using this impressive new technology that I couldn't comprehend (it was xamarin lol). I really stopped doing anything that wasn't very essential upkeep and spent every working hour sorting shit by new on the chapo sub, until it became evident that the new app was quickly becoming hot shit and I had to quit before my app was replaced on the store and I had nothing to present to new potential employers.
