If Hexbear can collectively agree which one is best I will go to it when I can and pet the bodega cat
The best bodega is the one closest to your current location
Death to America
The best bodega is the one within two blocks of you whose owner will tell you you can pay next time because you forgot your wallet and has bootleg cigarettes
You can always spot a bodega that's guaranteed to sell cheap cigarettes and loosies when all of their chips are dusty.
There's this gas station nearby where the owner is so cheap he keeps the prices like a dollar above everyone else, no one ever goes there except by accident, and even the drinks in the refrigerator are covered in dust.
Oh, no one told you about the sixth borough only New Yorkers know about huh
I'm sorry, I'm normal - isn't a borough where hobbits live?
the one near 33 Thomas Street, they'll have what you'll need comrade :kim-salute:
The one that hides the unwrapped Tootsie rolls all over the store.
I'll leave this here...
bodega <noun>
1 (in the US) a small grocery store, especially in a Spanish-speaking neighborhood.
2 (in a Spanish-speaking country) a wine shop or wine cellar.
3 <Philippines> A storehouse or storeroom: we have filled up almost half of our bodegaEtymology: mid 19th century from Spanish, via Latin from Greek apothēkē "storehouse". Compare with boutique.
Unfortunately the vast majority these days of what are regarded as bodegas are absolute food desert garbage dumps.
I always imagine an industrial size machine pumping overtime churning high fructose corny syrup into an array of festively covered bags in which reside all manner of mass-produced junk food ranging from chocolate treats to deep fried pork rinds. So depressing to see like 99%, almost literally, of pre-packaged shit and not one fresh thing in the place (maybe coffee).
That said there are still a pretty good amount of taquerias and the like in the back of some of these dumps. You gotta keep looking. But there are some gems.
