The point of the culture war is to never be won. At least for the Dems and the old Washington Consesus neoliberal crowd. Its just a never ending fundraising drive for the political class, and a never ending slop bucket for the media class. Thats why legal abortion was never codified, or marriage equality, or contraceptive access. Can't fundraise off a battle thats been permanently won, can't use the same talking points, or write the same op eds over and over.

The crypto-fascist Conservative Movement that became the contemperary Republican party was always playing to win though

Why would the Dems do that though? Joe said it himself that they need a strong Republican party

They do need a strong republican party, otherwise if the rightoids actually evolved into our genera, they would punch up at them instead of engaging in their standard subhumanity

    :geordi-no: culture war

    :geordi-yes: Cultural Revolution

Many excesses and tragedies happened back then, but when Cultural Revolution happens in the former US, it will have to be even more disruptive :mao-aggro-shining: :john-brown:

    I don't give a shit.

Disney will make more LGBT-inclusive shows and the GOP will find a secret previously hidden page of the US Constitution which says that sodomy is punishable by death.

You can't win a culture war. That's the whole point. It's literally there to distract from class politics.

    Sure maybe.

But capital doesn't want a full blown culture war that could end up being destabilizing no matter who wins

Capital doesn't care about culture wars though - the culture war ultimately benefits capital by keeping attention focused away from them by convincing CHUDs they're actually oppressed by the barista with purple hair

consumption choices are what americans mean by culture

      walmart vs trader joes
      light beer vs white wine
      iHeartMedia radio vs npr

when i was a kid watching action movies, i never understood what the antagonists (invariably international terrorists) meant when they accused americans of having a bankrupt culture. seeing festivals, events, and holidays in other countries that weren't 100% coopted into corporate branding schemes is what did it. or rather, returning to the US and seeing all the branding on every surface for every moment of attention did it.

a big MetLife Snoopy floating in the sky for Thanksgiving, Coca Cola Polar Bears on Christmas, everything leading to the only uniquely US Cultural Event: the Super Bowl... a cavalcade of brand new, never before seen and high production value commercials everyone is expected to watch and like and rehash at work the next day.

How can you write this while simultaneously watching the Dems completely fuck up winning any sort of Culture War? They've been losing ground for ages now

"When Democrats call out the Republicans’ hateful vision, and in turn offer a compelling and clear alternative narrative, they win. Recent examples include Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow who chose to respond to her Republican colleague’s hateful “groomer” accusations with a viral video in which she clearly articulated her identity as a white, straight, Christian mom whose values inspire her to reject the GOP’s “hollow, hateful scheme” and anti-LGBTQ bigotry. She promised that Democrats “will not let hate win.” McMorrow’s passion and clarity were rewarded with a huge spike in donation and media engagement, and her speech is being used as a template for Democratic messaging."

    oh my god lmao

The first part of the article was about how Americans by and large have progressive values, so if they voted that way, America would get better. Yeah I wonder why that doesn't seem to work most of the time, weird. Then it just gets into bonkers social media strategies and speeches. Just vote vote vote

"Governor Gavin Newsom is another excellent example of a Democrat going on offense. On Independence Day, Newsom dropped an ad in Florida listing all the ways “freedom is under attack by Republican leaders,” such as book bans, voter suppression, speech restrictions, and the criminalization of women and doctors. He invited Floridians to join him in California, a state run by Democrats where they protect and defend freedoms. This was exquisite trolling according to Shenkar-Osario, but more importantly, it was very effective and memorable messaging."

there is an article on planet earth that claims Gavin Newsom is responsible for exquisite trolling

lol so what he means by Dems fighting an "all out culture war" is to copy Republicans but just replace the R with a D

Cut a liberal and a fundraising fascist bleeds

What would that gain the working class? Dems are already hyper focused on culture war nonsense rather than providing material benefits or support for labor.
