As the replies state, still killing more people than motor vehicles, guns and opioids combined - 700 deaths yesterday. Not to mention long covid (currently 8% of the US population), knock on effects to healthcare, continued pressure on collapsing public education…what a fucking master of understanding systems the numbers wizard is.

Someone flush this motherfucker’s laptop down the toilet, give him a wedgie with his lanyard and put him in the gulag for dorks.

      Definitely.

I can't believe we live in a reality where people need to be told that they shouldn't cause illness, suffering, and death. And even with reminders - they never change.

where people need to be told that they shouldn’t cause illness, suffering, and death

where half of society is kept on the brink so they have to do that to keep a roof

Moneyball was a mistake. It made folks like Silver - people who are OK with statistics but don't actually have a really deep understanding of how to use statistics - thinking they're the smartest person in the room wherever they go. Doesn't matter if they don't know the first thing about the field - whether it's baseball or say, epidemiology - they think DATA is all they need and they can figure it all out.

Like I said, someone just please make an ACTUAL deadly bioweapon and just drop it on this godforsaken shithole

We will deny it while it eats us alive, there will be no retaliation

This site breeds doomerism and radically obsessive terminal onlineness. It's the outrage thing that other social media sites do on purpose happening by accident.

as a disabled person who hasnt left her house two years, thank you for caring comrade op. it is so refreshing to see people on the internet actually give a fuck. i cant even get some leftists to help make protests accessible. i feel so unseen, so often. and this outrage reminds me that there are still decent humans out there.

As a '20 long hauler who has been isolating as well, I second all of this. It has been a real comfort to me that the people on this site have recognized the abdication of covid protections for the crime it is. Too many nominal leftists have completely abandoned the disabled and the vulnerable, and it's painful to watch from the bed I've been stuck in for two plus years.

solidarity to you comrade. i totally feel this. im an organizer and cant go to events or protests because so many "leftists" wont wear a mask. which is ridiculous because it also helps protect identity. i run accessible actions and theory on discord but we should still feel safe to join. are folks even leftists if they dont include disabled people in their liberation? i dont think they are. 😭 😭 [two sobbing emojis]

    Nitter.net isn't working for me. Here's a nitter.snopyta.org link.

You should give up the Dr Silver routine.

He's just a dude whose more qualified to look at these stats than most doctors but go off.

I'm sure Nate's fans look at him as some kind of superhero, brainiac math guy with name like MathMan.

What could his puny competitors such as doctors, scientists, researchers, and epidemiologists know anyway in comparison?

Nitter never works for me like 90% of the time it takes ages to load whereas basic Twitter takes seconds. I still love the concept because Twitter makes you have an account and log in to look at a tweet which is equally annoying. But I've just got a Twitter account that I never tweet from to look at stuff. Nitter 9/10 times just don't load for me. I'm also in the third world so that may have something to do with it, not sure where the nitter servers are.

I think there are different nitter instances, but I mostly use it because for some reason links in tweets never work for me on the normal twitter site.

ublock origin can block the nag popup and I can see everything but the porn. and there's probably a way to see the porn, i just don't care enough

I'm in the US and the only thing that's any good at all is nitter.snopyta.org.

I think the programmer is a bit of an asshole. I've shared nitter.net links all over the place and it annoys me to no end that they'll probably be broken at least 75% of the time. If you go to the Github page with instances - nitter.snopyta.org isn't even listed. If snopyta.org starts to give me grief - I'm never using anything by that programmer ever again.

nitter.net links are usually just broken because it's the most popular instance and it gets rate limited sooner. not sure why you think the programmer is an asshole but im curious

nitter.snopyta.org has no documentation and general users don't know about it.

            Why?

            Also as I said...

I’ve shared nitter.net links all over the place and it annoys me to no end that they’ll probably be broken at least 75% of the time.

If I had known nitter.net was such garbage - I would have never shared links. Other instances are even worse.

doesnt seem like a very good reason to call the devs of a free and open source project assholes, but ok
