Link is example. Omg a chimp smoking! Queue 8000 comments about how it's gotta be happier than all the citizens of North Korea combined

Every single thread tangentially mentioning North Korea is like this and it seems like there's multiple such posts every fucking goddamn day with how frequently I see this shit.

It's literally run by "ex" CIA and they themselves accidently revealed one of the biggest concentrations of redditors was on a fucking airforce base

it was Eglin Air Force Base, and I remember reading the Reddit blog post myself, so, yeah, def. not made up

I can give you some links later, but look up who the reddit company executives are. If you intended the Voice of America (cia outlet, runs the "radio free ____, used to be run by tucker Carlson's father") pun, bravo that was brilliant.

Lol I did not, but thank you.

Funny how one can coin a generic patriotic phrase and its already a vehicle for propaganda somewhere.

Reddit’s content director (the person in charge of appointing mods, determining what subreddits get on the front page, etc) is Jessica Ashoo. Her LinkedIn used to be public before people started sharing it around.

She worked at Atlantic Council and also worked for the government of UAE as a “consultant”.

Yeah I've been noticing this on every single sub. China or Russia has to be mentioned, even in posts that aren't related to them. You could say this is a reflection of how most Americans are but I don't think most Americans have China or Russia on their mind as much as these obsessed Redditors do.

it's just standard (social media) marketing as far as I'm concerned. they have a public relations schedule where they know what china bad thing they will post for at least a month beforehand and if anything new comes up, they replace old stuff they've already posted.

Yeah they just recycle shit constantly. They milked the Uighur genocide narrative for years, constantly reposting the drone footage of the standard prison transfer or the mass arrest of the MLM pyramid footage we have all seen. They have like 3 pictures that seem spoopy (Chinese prisons are extra authoritarian!!!) that they literally just post each month like clockwork and act like it’s a breaking story.

The comments are always filled with frothing Redditors who think they know everything getting genuinely angry over months old re-posts of fakes

The internet is a weapon. Controlling the internet within one's country is a matter of sovereignty.

This brings up all sorts of questions about how to control it and who should control it that need serious discussion. But it's clear letting foreign corporations or governments to unilaterally decide those questions is monstrous

I remember when China blocked Facebook there were so many smug libs declaring that China was going to be left behind from the future of the internet.

Fast forward to today and Zuck is almost universally reviled lmao.

main sub reddit is a huge psyop campaign wage by the state dept, and peoples in certain airbase from Penn. You not going get anything from it except for constant propaganda, and even when users tried to make good faith inquiries and call out BS source, the mods there would just remove it, since it doesn't go with their narrative.

5 years ago it wasn't nearly this bad. Most of the astroturfing seemed to focus mainly on the domestic political landscape. I feel like things really started kicking into gear around the Hong Kong protests.

The 2011 fukushima disaster was the first time I saw professional grade astroturfing and was around when I started using reddit. Suddenly there was a nuclear physicist in every single thread telling everyone it was nbd.
