In two laws passed on Monday and Tuesday, MPs voted to legalise zero-hours contracts and made moves towards removing up to 70 per cent of the country’s workforce from protections guaranteed by national labour law.

Ukraine’s ruling Servant of the People party argued that the ‘extreme over-regulation of employment contradicts the principles of market self-regulation [and] modern personnel management’.

What's "funny" is the SN isn't even selling this as essential to wartime production or something; just naked shock-doctrine neoliberalization of the Ukrainian labor market. The kind of thing that happens when you ban all your opposition parties under the guise of fighting Russian infiltration. Zelensky is such a fucking criminal opportunist.

        I googled...

        Zero-hour contract

Zero-hour contract is a term used to describe a type of employment contract between an employer and an employee whereby the employer is not obliged to provide any minimum number of working hours to the employee. The term 'zero-hour contract' is primarily used in the United Kingdom.

It’s always funny to me when horrible things other countries are about to impose are standard procedure here in the US. If you’re paid hourly here you almost certainly are zero-hour.

Honestly the idea that your employer does actually have to schedule you like agreed is shocking to me 💀

The way the gig economy has been normalized in the US shouldn't surprise me at all yet it still does. I can't imagine what it would take for Americans to realize the idea of American exceptionalism is a myth.

I’m not even talking about gig economy, I’m talking normal hourly service economy work. When I worked at [big 3 pizza chain] there were a few weeks where I just didn’t get scheduled for any shifts because we just didn’t need that many drivers.

Employers want to pay you as little as possible while also expecting you to have all the free time in the world to work at a moment’s notice

Labor power is the most important thing, labor itself is secondary. A zero hour contract gives employers total control over your labor power.

Wonder if they’ll condemn the west for sanctioning global south countries for continuing to do business with Russia
