wasn't there an absolutely massive generations-long study of millions that proved physical abuse of children made them turn out worse than their peers in basically every metric?
hate this shithole with every fiber of my being
US parental rights rulings mostly side with parent's rights to mold/shape/discipline their children, and supercede children's rights except in the most dire of circumstances.
The US is the only non-signatory to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_on_the_Rights_of_the_Child
fuck parents rights fuck parents rights fuck parents rights fuck parents rights
your comment is even more on the money bc (at least according to claims within the article) THE PARENTS WERE THE ONES ASKING FOR IT
irredeemable country :amerikkka:
Broadly speaking, the US doesn't sign international documents that would be even remotely good because of 'sovereignty'
And the ones it does sign it just rationalizes its way around ignoring later. For instance, Bush said Al Quaeda weren't part of the Geneva Convention which means we don't have to obey it either, and they won't get Prisoner of War treatment outlined within
I once knew a kid who famously got expelled from one of his previous schools cause he clocked the principal in the jaw after he threatened him with one of these paddles.....even at 14 he was a big burly kid don't know why they thought he would put up with it
Dude was in the local newspaper over that lmao
I can see the headline:
Local Hero Decks Shit Out of Attempted Child Abuser, is Expelled.
Hell yeah loved that guy, he was a little intimidating and kind of a dumbass to be honest, but he once brought a copy of that newspaper to lunch just to brag (he apparently kept it as a memento), dude was a character
I am vaguely sympathetic to that take. Not because I think it's correct, it's completely wrong, but I think that (Mostly baseless conjecture from someone with no experience inbound) the reason that many people say this is to make sense of a traumatic experience. That by telling yourself that it has value you can write it off as a growing experience; because when you get RID of that, what you have is someone you are supposed to trust physically assaulting you for no morally or scientifically justifiable reason, frequently on a repeat basis. And knowing that all of that didn't actually MEAN anything but fear and trauma is a lot harder of a pill to swallow than saying "well it was painful and scary but it made me a better person"
yeah, I should have rephrased that. It's not the TAKE that I'm sympathetic to, but the person who I feel says it and probably doesn't realize what they're REALLY saying
Its always that exact same line too. "I turned out fine!" No you didn't
Ah yeah I went to a Christian private school for like 6 years, 1-6 grade, and theydid this. Let me tell you, this is basically legalized sexual assault lol. Shit fucks you up. They did it bare bottom in front of the class.
Dont do that to kids. It's bad
oh no. I never even thought about this. There are already plenty of pedo teachers, this will only give them more power won't it?
I can't think of any reason for it besides sexual and social domination, so
Yeah you hit my kid and I hit you - it's probably in the Bible or something.
In a normal timeline it's something that should have ended with the boomers, but they're lead poisoned, so they kept it around
Laying a hand on my kid will be taken as permission to remove your teeth with a baseball bat
Even though America never ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, we should be held responsible for signing it anyway and get sanctioned over this shit.
I’ll be honest I don’t know why the rest of the world is still putting up with our shit
The thing about this thats so weird to me is that its supposed to be about instilling respect and discipline but as soon as kids get big enough to fight back they do. It should be obvious to literally anyone that its just bullying with no real upside. Like sports coaches get away with it (verbal abuse and overworking) because the kids want to stay on the team and because they think it will make them better athletes. When principles do it its to make them better people? Like, thats not an offer that anyone will take on. The coaches are doing what they do to, in theory, improve them at something physical and technical. You cant beat emotional and moral change into someone, you just make them resentful and defensive.
What is proven to work, meditation, mediated discussion, student autonomy, are all changes that directly target what is inside of students, there is no functional reason that beating could ever work. So its literally just bloodthirsty old people that want to beat people who can't fight back. greeeat, super coooool society
:haram:

:doubt:
Watch the white ribbon. Kids are not fully developed and that shit fucks them up. They never get resilient enough to fight back.
I guess stating it as what always happens is wrong but kids absolutely do fight back. Teenagers typically arent going to let someone beat them without resisting somehow.
It doesnt make the previous abuse less impactful.
Having children in the US is a hate crime, change my view
Death to America
Ngl I pretty much unironically agree with this. Having a child by choice in the United States is an unambiguously immoral act.
I wasn't even being ironic. Nobody deserves to grow up in such an awful country. This place is beneath human dignity
Death to America
Conditional anti-natalist gang represent. The take away from "life under capitalism is miserable" is not "don't bring more life into this world." It's "change the world so that life in it is no longer miserable."
Death to America
In the meantime, dont being kids into hellworld. Adopt instead.
As a foster parent, I regret to inform you that the adoption system is pretty fucked up.
The Texas system is riddled with pedophiles, while state leaders focus on harassing LGBT foster families.
Private Adoption is even worse.
By all means, do what you can. But know that you're really In A Society when you stick your foot in this water.
Adopt instead.
This is problematic as well unless you were to use more than two words to describe your point.
I understand that the adoption system is basically just for shite petite bougie folks in the U.S. but it's not as if I could just change it all with a snap of my fingers. Unless you're talking about whites white-ificating POC adoptees or something I'm not even gonna get into that one. Dont ever ask me for like, actual thoughts on how to fix shit because there really is no way to fix shit anymore. Things are going to get impossibly and unimaginably more and more worse as time goes on. And there is leigitmatley no way for any of us on here to fo anything about the cause itself, only mitigate the symptoms in what meager ways we can
Doomerism on this sub is so strong that people can't even imagine mutual aid extending to immediate family.
I simply cannot wait for the first student uprising where they intervene in a paddling, violently beat all teachers and administrators, and the school cop (because of course yankoid schools have cops on the school grounds) is forced to valiantly commit a school shooting to """defend themselves"""
“If you’re going to allow school shootings, we’re spinning them in our favor”
Literally Teenagers by MCR
I simply cannot wait for the first student uprising where they intervene in a paddling, violently beat all teachers and administrators
Unfortunately, I don't see this happening. Corporal punishment has been around for literal millennia, and as far as I know, nothing like this has ever happened.
Not this exactly, but there were a few examples of schools which got complaints for beating (especially black) students in the US that then had the Black Panthers team up with parents. The Black Panthers would provide armed defense outside of the schools while the parents patrolled the hallways to make sure their kids were safe.
How else are you meant to normalise violence as an appropriate response
most recent boonta vista ep discussed this, their first take was "lol americans are on one, imagine how insane it would be to still have corporal punishment" and then discovered that lots of schools in australia still have corporal punishment, or only banned it in the past few years
what i'm getting at here is i think we can ultimately blame the british
We need an Anti-Anglo Action emote. :amerikkka: :ukkk: :aus-delenda-est:
Western Civilization is just the British Royal Navy spreading cancer-like over the face of the world.
Don't call it a comeback.
Even two years ago when I was first enrolling my son, while filling out the paperwork, they had this question asking for consent to do this shit. I obviously was happy to tell them to bugger off but I really don't want to speculate how many people check it.
referencing the beatable children register before laying the smackdown
I really don’t want to speculate how many people check it.
It should be a trap. People who check that should have their kids freed
