“ The tragedy in Pakistan is a stark reminder of climate injustice. The top map shows which nations are most responsible for excess emissions. The bottom map shows which nations are most impacted by it. Climate breakdown is playing out along colonial lines.”

————————————-

This is it, it’s fucked, and every bit as bad as we thought it was going to be. It is categorically unfair that this is playing out along colonial lines. Be aware of an uptick in the already brutal racism against south asians in the west, the water wars haven’t even started. This was one natural disaster that DISPLACED 30 MILLION PAKISTANIS.

THIS SHOULD BE THE BIGGEST NEWS IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW

China: manufactures everything, has population of 1.4 billion

US: still somehow the largest total carbon polluter

US: still somehow the largest total carbon polluter

per capita (which is more important)

China is the biggest total, but of course they are, as their population is literally quadruple America. But the average and median American both emit more carbon. Then there's the fact that the bourgeoisie, regardless of nationality, emit way more per capita than the proles.

But if you total pollution since 1850 (or even since 1990), US has polluted more.

Oh yeah. That makes sense. I thought you meant current annual statistics. Yes. The countries that industrialized first historically have the most because they've been doing it the longest. That's very true.

I am at this point reminded of a co-worker who I once had who had a 30km commute one way which she obviously did by car, went on three airline trips a year because she deserved it, had what I can only describe as a fetish for eating meat and though it's those damn third worlders causing climate change because look at all those landfills they have over there, while she recycles

Climate change will probably displace hundreds of millions of people in South/Southeast Asia this century. Forced human migrations are usually violent too. Look at the Partition of India in 1947 or the more recent Arab Spring crises and imagine them 10x worse because it’s too hot or too flooded in Bangladesh to survive

Global south coalition blockading every single port in the US and Europe until they start actually doing shit about climate change when?

The developed north needed to pay developing countries to keep carbon in the ground, to avoid catastrophic climate change and still give the majority of the world the chance to have a decent standard of living.

    Obviously that was immediately rejected

Anyone who buys this rhetoric from a leader of one of the many gangster third world nationalist capitalist parties is a rube. These CIA stooges will take the "aid" money and invest it back into some bubble in the west.
