:so-true: "Thank you for the pod Elon sir! I'm so glad I live in a free market and not under that evil gommunism where I would get a better home for free!"

The expensive part of getting a house is the land and not the house itself, right?

yes, it's why every 2-3 years we have some "innovative" company that can shit houses out using nothing but recycled cornetto lids or w/e and are hailed as the saviours of the housing market and then nothing ever happens

Land could be cheap as shit and these still wouldn't work in a capitalist system that has commosified human survival.

It isn't just, like... land. Its plumbing and electrical and roads and other utilities. Sticking a pile of these glorified box cars in Wyoming without any kind of hookup doesn't get you anything. The primary job of a developer isn't building the housing nearly so much as it is wooing the city into paying to add an extra bundle of people to the grid at no cost to you.

cool, just what the housing market needs. a new type of cheap, manufactured housing that becomes a death trap during extreme weather events. a sort of shelterless housing.

meanwhile, wealthy people in the US are having spec luxury homes built of rammed earth out of nearby materials that, when cured, might last a thousand years and not look like a disposable microwave.

There are few things I hate more than Elon Musk YouTube. This garbage comes up whenever I try to find science or tech related videos.

Gamergate was a movement filled by anti-intellectuals who hate art, yet claim to be the standing authority on art.

Bazingoids are no different, they despise the sciences but claim to be the standing authority on it because New Product!

I was interested in EverdayAstronaut until I saw his channel. Every video is him fellating Elon Musk and/or shitting on his competitors. At some point he actually received an offer from SpaceX as PR or whatever but it doesn’t make that pre-SpaceX period less weird.

Hate tesla and Elon as much as the next person.

Any word on what trailer manufacturer they acquired to make these? Right now even the modular/trailer prices are through the roof and if it’s well built I welcome it.

A lot of that comes from building the production facility from the ground up rather than just buying one that can already make cars good and calling them teslas.

Which I’m 100% is what they did if this thing is real (it’s apparently not).

It really matters how well a trailer is built because stuff that’s load bearing or a facade or a protective layer on normal homes is often all three on a trailer.

It also gives people the idea that poors have options out there. "See there are houses poor people can afford out there, stop complaining!" As if someome breaking their back with 3 jobs doesn't deserve better then a plastic shoebox.

Elon's futurism looks a lot like a plot to preserve car culture and single family housing

One of the saddest tragedies is that Elon Musk is an anti-intellectual, anti-rationalist, who literally bought his way into being the mascot of both the sciences and futurism. No one seems to be able to recognize that and it is horrifying. He is the new Edison.

With his status as mascot, he bends it towards this inauthentic drive for blind consoomerism and all his bullshit is blamed on the left. It's apparently the left that is making people live in the pod and eating the bugs because we are anti consoomers. However, the masses are okay with billionaires having yet another yacht and them actually living in pods.

This is a lengthy video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7yQOG4Ty-s) which of course slobbers all over Elon but also explains (?) the house in a little more detail. It mentions in like the first minute that you can use it to become a landlord without even having to make any mortgage payments. In my lib days I can remember being excited about self-driving cars because of the possibility that I could rent one out without having to do anything, which is basically the bourgeois dream.

I'm about halfway through the video and I don't think I'm going to finish it, but it also mentions the "housing shortage" rather than the "landlord problem" which is the reason it's become impossible for anyone who isn't wealthy to own a house. There is plenty of land and there are plenty of houses, the problem is that it's all owned by a handful of shitheads, etc., etc.

It mentions in like the first minute that you can use it to become a landlord without even having to make any mortgage payments

Then who the fuck is supposed to be paying for it? This is always the most insane shit. Just do everything on credit! As though interest rates are still zero and the free money train hasn't left the station. And that's not all....

      (a) Where are you even going to put that glorified wheelless winnebago? Its not like the land underneath it is going to be free. We ran out of that shit ages ago.

      (b) What's the power/plumbing situation? Just the chronic bane of "Tiny Home" afficianados is the ACTUAL FUCKING INFRASTRUCTURE which differentiates a home from a shack.

      (c) Who is giving you money to live here? If its all just investment properties, we've got an abundance of slums and ghettos for the impoverished to choose from already. I can't imagine who is going to want to live in your brand new plastic box when a three-story walk up apartment will be simultaneously cheaper and more convenient.
