The suggestion that the U.S. caused the damage was circulating on online forums popular with American conservatives and followers of QAnon

Sorry sweaty only conservatives and far-right groups would believe such a silly thing.

Pretty sure the entire left unanimously came to the conclusion "America did it" within minutes of the news breaking.

Russia had absolutely nothing to do with people coming to that conclusion. It was the spontaneous thought of every single person with a brain.

America is the most likely culprit, followed by basically anyone else in NATO who owns a boat.

"A baseless conspiracy theory" is when you blame a geopolitical rival for destroying your pipeline less than a year after the leader of said rival nation publicly stated that he was going to prevent it from being completed

Oh yeah and said rival nation has been behind hundreds of coup attempts, terrorist attacks, and boasts a military & intelligence budget that is higher than most nations' GDP

I didn’t fully believe the U.S. blew up this pipeline until I read this headline.

I've found that US and especially Ukraine propaganda is a lot more effective at making me yell "another cracker down, unlimited genocide on the first world" than Russian propaganda.

It really has been wild watching any pretense of anything like integrity, investigation, or even skepticism be beaten out of the media to get the entire US media system banging the war drums to the beat. Fucking incredible.

The Central Intelligence Agency owns everyone of any significance in the major media.

The entire US (and UK) media was already like this during the Iraq invasion. What frightens me is that they've extended that complete propagandistic control to their continental European allies / hostages. I'm used to our press being imperialist, liberal wankers, but i have never seen anything as ferociously jingoist and warmongering from them ever before. Isolated instances, yes, there's always been a share of natsec ghouls writing commentaries dripping with chauvinist expansionism, but such a united front of journos banging the war drum? Germany hasn't seen that since the 1940s. There was always some room for dissent, even if it was ignored by policymakers. That's not allowed anymore, nuance is marked as treason, pacifism is labeled as aiding a hitleresque enemy.

What's really funny about all this is; Who are they trying to convince? US Citizens have no influence over our government. If the US came right out and said they did it nothing would change. Likewise Russia's citizens aren't going to do anything to change their government's course. Europe seems completely helpless. Who is all this propaganda for? None of us are citizens. We're all subjects of various oligarchies.

      Germans.

When people lose their jobs in the factories that can no longer afford to operate, and go cold and hungry in the winter as there is not enough gas to heat homes, cook food, or run supermarkets, there will be a lot of angry desperate Germans, and if the US had admitted to destroying the pipeline that gas could have come through, more of that anger would be directed at the US.

Now they are still able to say "Putin did this to you. Putin is the reason you are cold and hungry and unemployed". Some people will believe it.

The US state had a lot to gain by sabotaging the nordstream pipeline and absolutely nothing to gain by admitting to it.

Is the US trying to set up a new fascist bloc aimed at Russia, but with all of Europe backing and funding Operation Barbarossa this time?

They need it to be Americans can only realize one truth. Either they understand gay people aren't evil or Russian people aren't evil, never both at they same time.

That shitty fake RAND document "leaked" on the Web purporting to be about the need for the US to make Germany dependent on it for energy a few weeks before the pipeline got bombed is looking more and more suspect by the day. It's so amateurish, clearly meant to look like a speaker of a Slavic language wrote it, and as far as I can tell originated on Yandex's Google Drive equivalent and got shared in forums frequented by Q/Alex Jones types...

I'd said before it was probably put out there by some CIA flunky so that a "fact checker" can "expose" the "Russian propaganda network" that "fueled" these "insane, right-wing conspiracy theories."

Jesus christ this shit is frustrating. it is literally just "you doubt the statements of anonymous sources and NATO chief Buchenwald von Himmler? well you are just like qanon" like they just tell us to our faces lies, and sure it has always been like this, but because of "disinfo" the ability to shut conversations down is easier and easier.

It is simply put, to use the words of our tin-foil hat queen "craaaazy making" :liz-society:

Today Democracy Now! headlines segment said the pipe was compromised in FOUR places simultaneously... yeah it sure "burst" lol, by deliberate industrial sabotage.

Also apparently this is the single largest atmospheric methane leak in history. The world is literally doomed if the US isn't stopped, and fast. I have read that refuse dumps that can't collect the methane generated by all the trash will literally burn the methane in an open flame as it escapes because that is less damaging to the atmosphere than allowing the methane to simply escape

it's so counterintuitive that burning the methane is actually better for the atmosphere
