My favorite part of this whole thing is cis chuds framing their transphobia as deep concern for trans people. Like "if I were trans, I wouldn't want to be represented via a character who'd been through this kind of arc", as if so many of us weren't IMMEDIATELY like "god Bridget's arc is so relatable", as if so many of us don't think we're femboys for some amount of time before we come out.

Second favorite part is the devs explicitly confirming that her new character design has a dysphoria hoodie on purpose

as if so many of us don’t think we’re femboys for some amount of time before we come out.

It's crazy to me that there's people who are into femboys but extremely not ok with trans women. Like, yeah they're distinct and some people are totally fine being femboys, but the chance of a femboy coming out as trans has to be way higher than an average person. And if you're exclusively into femboys, you've already narrowed your dating pool a lot, now you're insisting that they be 100% sure that they will always identify with this specific label? This is how you know that these people are all porn-brained and don't interact with real people.

Whatever happened to regler god-fearin' femboys what like the Bible says?? It's bio-uh-logical! There's only 4 genders, men, women, femboys, and catgirls and I won't hear nothin' else.

Girls wearing masculine stuff became so normalized that tomboys became part of the default.

A bunch of years back I saw an article about a woman in NYC who specialized in suits for women. She was talking about how so many masc women wanted to wear suits, but men's suits never really fit right, so she jumped on the niche to give people suits that fit properly and looked sharp. I always thought that was really cool.

Tomboys are an abomination in the eyes of god. That's why he tried to rain fire and brimstone down on Seattle in 89 but a plucky young short haired woman and her cat built a giant fucking robot and punched him in the nards until he stopped.

          The mentality is like:

"Lol the woke LGBT mob is gonna be so triggered when I, a straight man, masturbate to a femboy! Just so long as they're a femboy, if anyone starts saying they're a woman, I'm gonna be fucking pissed."

          Gold medal for mental gymnastics.

If i had to guess, i'd say that a minority of these people may actually be transphobic gay men or straight women who can't handle their sex object being a girl, but most of the people posting that kind of shit do not care about the franchise or the character at all and just see a convenient opportunity to misgender her and engage in culture war bs. it's chuds, it's just a brainless mass of reflexive edgelords looking for opportunities to be sadist, they do not have opinions that aren't purely instrumental and bad faith.

There's a fair amount of channer types who are into femboys just because of the taboo, and the fact that anime femboys are often drawn indistinguishable from women. The idea that it's "wrong" is part of the appeal to them, and they hate it when people are proud/unashamed of themselves because it ruins it for them. Like they hate LGBT people, but for them, the defining trait of being gay isn't being attracted to the same gender, but not being ashamed of it.

That makes the most sense to me. I know there are extremely weird 4chan creatures who have developed a strange new sexuality where they're gay for femme men but only if they dress like teenage girls but that's somehow not gay and they're actually heterosexual and then they go on with like twenty more pages of bullshit that ultimately just comes out to "I have nine kinds of phobic and my sense of self is totally fractured and incoherent".

But there can't actually be that many of them.

        Like, yeah they’re distinct

What's so weird to me is that the people who are upset by this are usually totally :frothingfash: about any discussion of gender identity. Like how is femboy waifu catboy good and wholesome and acceptable to them but trans women are :haram: ? Femboy is about as far from any kind of traditional or mainstream conceptualization of masculinity as you can possible bet, but being trans is a gender transgression gone too far?

        I can't. I just can't. It's too fucking weird for me.

To be fair, if there's one thing these folks hate more than trans people, it's having to deal with any sort of subjectivity or ambiguity in their media. I'm sure plenty of them were just mad that a game forced them to think instead of spoon-feeding them every single nuance.

Really all this is like fundamental caste shit. Trans women are acceptable only so long as we are sex objects, the second we start to move into the realm of the actual person it violates multiple social hierarchies on a fundamental level. It calls into question hetero male supremacy and this cannot be allowed. This is why on a psycho sexual level they HAVE to see us as nothing more than human shaped sex toys.

I am saying nothing that hasnt been said by smarter people, but trans women pose an existential threat to the patriarchy. If a "man" can become a woman, the higher cast low. If actually the genders are so equal in value that a "privileged man" would become an "unprivleged woman" doesn't that imply equality not hierarchy? This is why having trans women as acceptable in society is a complete red line for conservatives, all other queer transgressions can be rationalized and ignored to one degree or another, trans women cannot. Furthermore we must be punished.

I say this all not to place trans women on a pedestal or exert some special virtue of our existence or assert our superiority over other queer identities. On the contrary, there is nothing special about us except the place we hold in the conservative imaginary. It is they that impute us with this status. It us their own anxieties and fears and psycho sexual drives that make trans women into this. They are the ones making us the poster child if their latest genocidal drive! Belive me I wish we weren't accrded such a place of honor, it us fucking exhausting.

There's a video game with an amab waifu whose gender has been ambiguous for like twenty years. A recent edition of the game had her confirming she's trans. :frothingfash: lost their shit about it and started posting all kinds of :frothingfash: shit, so the devs felt compelled to just come out and state Bridget is trans.

this is the second time she was confirmed trans. the first time they just said "yeah. she's a woman." and now they're explaining that she was always sort of meant to be trans.

also afaik she's the origin of the slur "trap" used to refer to anyone perceived as a man but who can "trick" the viewer into thinking they are a woman. gets used a lot to refer to anime femboys but obviously is aimed at trans women whenever they show up with these people, and is also used irl some (the worst member of my high school anime club referred to some trans model who was in the news as this slur.)

so basically her being trans is a big deal because of her past as a tool of transphobia, even if clearly the team at guilty gear didn't mean to cause harm. her original role does contain several jokes about people flirting before learning she's "male" so it's not like they're totally innocent, but i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. she was a commonly requested character in all the games since her last appearance, so they probably spent a while trying to figure out how to bring her back without it coming off quite as transphobic as her original appearance and her popularity had become, and i think they succeeded

video game character from a long running series. first appeared in 2002, presented as a feminine boy who dressed as a woman due to societal norms in the village bridget hailed from. then didn't appear until showing up as dlc in the most recent installment earlier this year, where her story mode consists of her coming out as trans. naturally this makes the worst people on the internet very upset.

It's super fucking weird that a "Femboy who dresses like a girl all the time (and is ambiguously like 12 I swear to god) is acceptable to them but "She's trans" is somehow beyond the pale.

Like they're saying "It is okay and good for me to spank off to a boy who dresses like a girl, but a woman is just beyond the pale!"
