clearing the way for a younger generation of up-and-coming lawmakers to climb into the leadership ranks.

so the new leader will be 75 years old

He HATES the left and the DSA with a passion. He and AOC despise each other.

Think the local DSA had plans to (or did) primary his stupid, sellout ass.

              Righteous.

              He’s a Neoliberal POS.

We can at least hope that the Dems dropping the idea of “coalition building” with leftists is enough to discredit the DSA’s dominant radlib faction and push the organization left.

It will not, they did not generally arrive at that position because of rigorous materialist analysis but like the vibe of leftism wrt the oppressed and worker power but are either too comfortable or too scared for actual change - i.e. socialist revolution. I hoped that getting spurned over and over but especially 2016 to 2020 would get the radlibs to figure it out but alas apparently not.

I don't think that is automatically better. Being younger does not make someone's opinions better. And they're politicians they're not going to be in touch with people

Jeffries will be the new leader. Similar ideology as Pelosi, but much more openly hateful of the left. He might work with the GOP and pass some right-wing stuff purely to "own" the left.

Hakeem Jeffries is opposed to class analysis and he watches Game of Thrones. He's an anti-socialism liberal.

“There’s a difference between progressive Democrats and hard-left democratic socialists,” Hakeem Jeffries told me. “It’s not a distinction that I’m drawing. They draw that distinction. And so clearly, I’m a Black progressive Democrat concerned with addressing racial and social and economic injustice with the fierce urgency of now. That’s been my career, that’s been my journey, and it will continue to be as I move forward for however long I have an opportunity to serve. There will never be a moment where I bend the knee to hard-left democratic socialism.

Jeffries likes that phrase, bend the knee. He took it from Game of Thrones. “Black progressives do tend to tackle issues first and foremost with an understanding that systemic racism has been in the soil of America for over 400 years,” he said. “Hard-left progressives tend to view the defining problem in America as one that is anchored in class. That is not my experience as a Black man in this country. And perhaps that’s where we have a difference of perspective.”

Amazing to me that, instead of slightly bending with the wind and nudging just a bit towards progressive/left-wing signaling to appeal to the base as is typically the case, the DNC is doing the exact opposite and will likely double down when called out about it.

I suppose their bloated egos from the midterms might be a factor.

Once the exit polls for this election came out a lot of left of center X'ers were shocked to find out that more than 50% of their cohort are Reaganite scum. Like no shit, guys. Don't you remember that everyone bullied and beat the shit out of you in highschool and everything you liked was called "alternative" and "counter culture"?

I've heard millenials described as the most progressive generational cohort in a century, but I'm skeptical. It'll be interesting to see if that descriptor still pans out when we finally inheret leadership of US institutions in 50 years or so. What's left of them anyway.

Party of the question is whether they inherit enough of the boomer wealth to shift them rightward. I'm thinking yes, but as global tensions increase the American empire is going to have more and more trouble generating the wealth needed to sustain the rightward pressure it's enjoyed throughout it's entire existence.

I think it'll be Zoomers and mostly Alphas who will really be picking up the pieces and actually having to contend with a less inflated living standard on a widespread basis.

There could be a "progressive" era that mirrors Teddy Roosevelt in regards to monopolies, but I don't see that happening for another twenty to thirty years.

I'd assume it's shorthand for wanting to raise taxes on corporations and the wealthy, to re-invigorate the public sector and welfare policies like universal healthcare, for being opposed to foreign interventions, etc.

its a term that has become entirely meaningless. maybe a slight tinge towards 'racism is bad'
