Nah you're thinking of the OG Pitch Black, that's the one they keep bringing back. This was like a high quality grape soda, with a sour kick that dragged into a pleasant aftertaste after every sip. The OG shit they keep bringing back is sweet as fuck and reminds me of Kool-Aid like you said, just with added carbonation.
