I’m so fucking :doomer: and while I know it’s a coping mechanism I fail to argue against it.

Let’s just share wholesome happy things in this thread.

China is investing $73 trillion dollars (with a T) over the next decades into fighting climate change . It's the biggest investment in human history.

They also have the world's most successful and aggressive anti-desertification campaign aimed at combating the spread of the Gobi Desert, and have pledged to plant and conserve some 70 billion trees.

It's not all bad out there comrade :Care-Comrade:

yay, a small part of the total globe is sensible. I’d get more hope if they were expanding their military in order to defeat American nukes and get the ability to do a un-reciprocated first strike. But that’s negative talk.

I’ll decide to join you in being happy about the trees. I love trees. My trip to the great redwood forest was the best day of my life, unironic and no shit.

Nucking the self-destructive US is totally unnecessary and overkill. Save that uranium and plutonium for the reactors.

Eh, my evil leaders won’t give up power until they die or are forced to. And uranium isn’t rare enough to make using a waste of it ends US hegemony. Which won’t end without force unless the earth allows itself to be destroyed in the name of patience.

They will turn on one another and take the fragile dollar with them. The fact that yuan for oil even came up in public is a telling sign that the rest of the world sees the beginnings of a civil war in the US. You are in for some mighty fine degrowth boys.

Small in terms of international power. When is the last time China imposed its will? That is the measure of power at the end of the day. Making somebody who is wrong act right.

China, despite being 17.5% of the world population, controls 28.4% of worldwide industrial production. If 28.4% of worldwide industrial production became carbon neutral, that is an incredible change. And the fact is, China's share of global production increases by about 1% every 2 years. Going forward, it isn't completely impossible that their share would be so enormous that they can single handedly dictate climate policy for much of the world's industry based on economics alone.

      :china:

Capitalism vs Socialism aside, the US is going to get left behind by not just China, but even its fellow global north countries.

While serious countries are tackling climate change or at least strategizing, America is more concerned with drowning :grillman: in absolute shit-tier consoomerist garbage, or tormenting the eeeeevil minority of the week for some good ol' fashioned bread & circuses.

Those of us on welfare here in Norway are getting an extra 1k nkr (about 100 euros) this christmas (and if you have kids an additional 1k per child) thanks to the socialist party Rødt pushing it through parliament

It's not gonna change the world or anything, but it's definitely going to make the holiday better for a lot of folks here :cat-com:

I’m happy for you. Is Rødt Usually good?

I know it’s dumb, but I’ve loved Norway ever since I saw Lillehammer. If nothing else, you live in a beautiful place and that’s pretty cool.

Do you mind if I ask what an actual resident thinks of how the show portrays Norway?

Yeah Rødt are generally pretty decent, it's not like they're gonna bring on the revolution or anything, but it's nice to have a party that genuinely gives a shit about workers and the poor.

Oh and I haven't watched that show since it first aired on tv, but I remember liking it!

That’s really cool having a party you can trust to care. As an American my standards are really low even though I don’t really have the right to complain since we have all that imperial loot.

I just think I’d be so happy if I had a person I could trust to actually care about improving things in government.

I’m glad to hear it’s not a terrible misrepresentation or anything (snus got me off cigs and I learned of it from the show lol).

Thanks for chatting. I’m reaching the level of drunk I don’t have much more to add lol, so adios. (Nice username btw)

          Aww, so cute.

I’m very happy mr Biggs is happy enough to do that.

I know this sounds dickish, but I was worried for the lil guy since hamsters are so social.

If he be doing that it proves my worries unfounded.

Every animal deserves a human like you . One who makes them happy enough to engage in a biological pleasure response.

Please post a gif or vid of him some day. He’s such a cute dude. I would love to see him in motion.

Side note: how do you make your uploads secure? I have a kitten I rescued from the garden center at work and would love to share. I’m terrified of my local fascists (live in the south) and worry about opsec.

The nurses strike is underway in the UK with 100,000 striking workers and 65% of the population supporting the strike despite the media making every effort they can to turn the public against them.

So I’m dumb, yeah? How does a medical strike not kill patients? (Not that I mind them being English and all/sarcasm) do the ones who actually treat gonna die people sit out or something ? Strikes are good though. I just don’t understand how this one works.

      • Awoo [she/her]

It probably isn't good for patients. But it has reached a breaking point where NOT striking is worse for patients. Nurses are currently grossly understaffed and pick up hours without overtime pay because they don't want to harm the patients. Many are working 80-100 hour weeks for their 37.5hour per week contracts. They do it because it's work that needs to be done. But they're so overworked, so miserable, and barely living with enough money (especially in london) to survive. These conditions cause bad nursing, which kills patients. The outcome of these strikes will be a net improvement for patients.

UK nurses have never striked before for exactly that reason. That's how monumental this is.

We're getting a lot of snow in the mountains which means the irrigation systems will be able to keep the farms going in my neck of the woods. People need food. The summers have been brutal the last 4 years but with enough water we can keep it at bay. Fingers crossed, comrade.

Local media is also doing a concerted effort to amplify the voices of indigenous activists and artists, especially women. I live close to a reservation so it's nice to see it.
