Interesting. Now explain what was happening in book 6 of the rise and fall of the Roman empire and how it's applicable to the current state of the world. Or else :wall:

morshupls Well you see the Romans passed a grain subsidy in 123 BC which directly caused the Empire to fall 900 years later, and that's why we need to get rid of all forms of welfare!

It's especially weird to talk about the fall of "the west" and compare it to the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire was a state. The west is more of a concept. How is a concept going to fall?

White people losing the hegemony necessary to enforce their will on the rest of humanity and not being able to take it out on queer people or the lessers they look down upon at home is precisely "the fall of "Western society".

Those Western values™ they proclaim as noble are roundabout ways of maintaining this status.

      Freedom of speech:

just look at how few fucks those same crybabies give about people being arrested or losing college enrollment / employment for protesting a fucking genocide. Yet they'll throw a hissy fit about "the freedom of speech" whenever some right-wing scumbag gets their post removed or allegations of sexual misconduct come up. Meanwhile, the wealthy control not only the publications, but also the algorithms that govern communication amongst their peers...to no protest.

      Christianity:

merely a tool to lend moral credibility towards shaming queer people and muslims and stifling women's self-determination in relationships and within the family structure. Christ would be treated with shame and indignation by Christians were he around today.

      The Nuclear Family:

upheld as a means of preventing economic lessers from encroaching on their power. Erecting barries to communal child-rearing structures ensures that only those with a base level of wealth can receive proper attention, nourishment, education, and supervision, rather than pooling resources. Not to mention the leverage this gives men over women. Some of these people probably do love their family, but from my experience, most of these types that aren't absent in their children's lives are extremely controlling or abusive.

      Democracy:

an important mechanism to placate the masses by reassuring them that they have any semblance of power whatsoever. Nevermind that lines are drawn and policies instituted to systematically disenfranchise the poor, racial minorities, and young people, because the wealthy will flood the airwaves with 24/7 negative coverage if anything came close to usurping a small bit of power from them. Choosing between two bourgeois compradors is just legitimate enough of a farce to provide an escape valve on revolutionary pressure.

      Rule of law:

Selective enforcement, selective patrolling, selective sentencing, and selective deliberation massively outweigh the letter and spirit of the law. This isn't even considering things like bail, fines, access to legal council, or the availability of legal opportunities to advance economically. A boot on the neck of the oppressed.

      Property rights:

Do I even need to explain this one?

Each and every "Western value" is simply a well-veiled proxy for the preservation of the status of the in-group.

The West worshipers are absolutely correct that their so-called values are in decline. But had they actually cared about those values outside of being a proxy for hegemony, they would notice that virtually all of them are better embodied in both spirit and practice by non-Western powers.

China has stronger rights of the accused, a guarantee to two criminal trials, no extrajudicial executions, damn near universal home ownership, and has better preserved their cultural traditions than the US or Europe. Westerners were too busy circlejerking about Chinese posters having some internet posts removed to notice that they are less free in almost every practical way than their Chinese counterparts: incarceration, democratic power, financial freedom, freedom to get an education, freedom from discrimination, freedom of opportunity, and the freedom to fail...all favor the Chinese. I will concede, you are less free to dominate, hurt, and exploit others...which is the truest Western value.

It ties directly in to how many, many socieities that were once in the Roman sphere still hold up Rome and their supposed role as inheritors of rome as a fetische of legitimacy and civilized-ness. In like 1915 a Kaiser and a Tsar, both evolutions of Caesar, were going to war with each other in Europe. Neither was from a culture that spoke Latin or any other romance language.

Rome killed a fuck ton of westerners. Caesar probably committed what we'd call a genocide in Gaul. Of course a brain titan likemelon-musk thinks Rome was some kind of beacon of western civilization. He's dumb enough to fall for propaganda that's thoroughly debunked for centuries. "Yikes" indeed.

Aight but what exactly are you going to do to reverse hundreds of years of bad decisions? These people want you to believe that if you fix a few problems here and there you can really turn things around instead of the obviously correct choice that sometimes you really have to push forward into a new state of things. The idea that you can return is dumb suck off me.

Nothing is a red flag that you’re dealing with a charlatan with a superficial grasp of history like someone making a “current events are analogous to the fall of the Roman Empire” argument.
