My headcannon Trump gets the speakership, uses the floor daily to rant about how the dreamcast was the best console ever made.

Sega got robbed by fate. The Dreamcast was the great console they needed to pick themselves up after the 32x and the Saturn - but then it went up against the PS2, Gamecube and XBox. Poor thing didn't stand a chance.

Folks we love the chuchu rocket don't we. We love the Space Channel 5.

I'd love to stay but I have an important meeting with my Seaman.

:a-little-trolling: We loved the VMU didn't we folks, didn't we? Take the game with you on the go, ah but the battery life, oh the battery life, it ran out so quick! You'd start up the dreamcast and hear that annoying BEEEEP. Never again, not under my watch. As your speaker of the house, I will do everything in my power to stop that.

If this starts a ripple effect where all the republicans are gaslit into voting for him as speaker of the house we'll officially have entered the funniest timeline.

According to my understanding of Christman Theory, the funniest thing will always happen.

The funniest outcome would be that they elect him and he doesn't accept it.

Being speaker is a downgrade from being president so I could see him not wanting to take it

look its like a chinese historical drama if you're the emperor you can't downgrade and call yourself marquis of the congress, doesn't matter if palace is burning

Our big wet boy lost his mojo and he has been so low energy. It will never happen but Trump as the speaker would make him his old self. He'd say shit about Biden and democrats every single day and the media would breathlessly give their audience the play-by-play every single time.

It would make me very happy if this happens. Would cure my mild depression I suspect. Imagine having cspan on all day to see him muddling through business and breaking decorum to rant about cnn anchors

OK, so for speaker of the house, does congress just announce anybody? I just assumed they were required to announce one of their own or some other gate keeping would apply.

The constitution just says that "The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers," and doesn't explicitly state that they must be a member of the house. But if a nonmember were chosen, I expect it would be open to legal challenge.

They certainly don’t have to be a congressperson, they just basically always (or maybe just always) are. I think there are no requirements at all but I could be wrong on that

Please god do it. Could you imagine him riffing against a hostile but ultimately captive and pathetic audience? Just calling representatives fat to their faces while crumbs descend from his jowls. Good god a state of the union address where he’s trying to sneak-eat a Big Mac while Kamala nods off and Joey says some inanely racist shit about the Scottish or something

Nancy Pelosi is the person who dictated that the legislation to break the rail strike without the sick days added in would get a vote. Speaker has a bunch of power.

Sure, but anyone who has a chance to become speaker for the foreseeable future would've done the same.

That's not an argument against the position being important.
