In total, 18 people had been confirmed dead as of Wednesday morning, including the three children, according to statements from Ukrainian officials. Twenty-two people who were wounded were being treated in the hospital, including 10 children.

Mr. Tymoshenko said that of those killed, nine had been onboard the helicopter when it crashed. The rest of the dead were children, parents or others on the ground, he said.

Honestly I'm amazed they haven't. Must just be a matter of time.

They blamed the Polish crash on Russia and rabid nationalists made like an entire movie about how their incompetent pilots weren't actually to blame but it was really evil Russian mind rays or something.

Their evidence for Russian involvement is that some bodies had "bullet holes". Gee, I wonder if a high-speed impact with terrain might also cause projectiles to be lodged into your body. Impossible! Must be those dastardly Russians.

He followed one rule perfectly: become the interior minister

But then he broke the golden rule of getting in the helicopter.

    NEVER GET ON AN HELICOPTER

That's just a general rule of thumb. There's a reason why people nickname them 'crashcopters'

my flight instructor called them 'flying leafblowers' and (rightfully) considered them a deathtrap

Jesus H. Christ, any government still funneling weapons to Ukraine to keep the war going is a monster.

This is potentially not good politically, or well worse than it already is for Ukraine. The previous minister of internal affairs was a semi closeted dogwhistly fascist that appointed all out foghorn fascists to important positions in the ministry.

The guy that just died reversed that and was seemingly a lib loyal to Zelensky. It's gonna be interesting to see who gets the position next.

It does seem like Zelensky really doesn't want a fascist fifth-column operating in Ukraine. We'll see if his individual leadership is enough to push back against the systemic pressures, this will be a good litmus test for the current state of Ukrainian politics. Hopefully enough Nazis died on the front lines that he has room to maneuver.

Didn't he run on drawing down the hostilities in Donbas and the facsists kept doing it anyway? I can see why he'd be big mad at them, they basically gave Russia a casus belli.

If he didn't want the fascists to keep shelling Donbas then he should have stopped providing them with artillery shells. He personally funded Azov prior to being elected and kept supporting them all the way up to the invasion. I think he only dislikes disloyal fascists.
