Been typing and deleting halfhearted jokes but I'm just growing progressively hopeless. I'm not a minor, but I doubt they'll suddenly decide to stop and leave the adults alone when it gets to that point. Lovely to add this growing specter of state persecution to my gender identity calculus, as if it wasn't stressful enough

A few places have floated ideas out there of banning any gender affirming care up to age 25/26.

In South Dakota Christian parents are allowed to not only use physical force like spanking to coerce their children into attending church, but can outsource that cruelty to private Christian schools. Corporal punishment of children under 18 is legal in South Dakota.

Child rights in South Dakota are absolutely dire.

It really is one of those things that fall under the radar but for Conservatives children are property to them.

See: The Texas GOP agenda which includes shuttering child protective services

It is the main reason the US is the only non-signatory for the UN Charter on Children's rights.

        Even North Korea has signed.

"Parental Rights" has been a rallying call for the Right for a long while, originating from protests against child labor regulations. :citations-needed: did a good episode on it.

Imagine caring about their thoughts or feelings

They go in the hole where they can't hurt anyone anymore and that's the end of it

Not to mention a lot of people in eastern and central South Dakota (and North Dakota, presumably that state will go hard against trans rights as it's at least as reactionary) have a lot of social and economic ties to Minnesota. More likely to have relatives in MN or job opportunities there from people you know.

NGL will hit up a NGO I know to see if that would qualify for humanitarian asylum.

Love the lib reaction of "well that's what happens when your state votes republican". Vote blue so we can do nothing about anything bad that happens anywhere but still smugly chastise the VICTIMS for it anyway. Being forced to listen to baby brained libs at work and out in the world is psychically damaging...

America really is on something else. I understand that it differs by state and all but even the most Evangelical regions of my country that allow child marriage haven't touched trans issues like this. Drag shows still go on in those regions without all the wild conspiracies Americans get into.

In a bizarre push to justify the bill, Republican Representative Brandei Schaefbauer quoted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assertion that “morality cannot be legislated, but behavior can be regulated,” Them reported.

It actually makes perfect sense in Christianese. They are misapplying it to mean "no no we're not legislating Biblical morality, we just think behaving trans is wrong. Based on the Bible. So we're legislating against it"

So as far I understand it these kids are on puberty blockers, are they going to force them to go though puberty? How are they going to do that, some of these kids have implants and stuff to block hormones, others take injections or oral pills, must they quit those cold turkey or? According to the article, doctors in the state have a year to wean patients off of any treatment, but I still don't understand it.

Even by chud standards I'm struggling, as usual for them, the cruelty is the point.

Ya I find the acknowledgement that forcing these kids off their medication "may cause immediate harm" to be more mask off than usual

very "some of you may die but that's intended a sacrifice I'm willing to make"
