It's so telling that the republicans are asking questions about train staffing, to form the basis of a political attack against Biden and the Democrats for ramming through the CBA and the Democrats are looking to pick on the brake regulations to form the basis of a political attack against Trump and Republicans. It's still all a Marvel movie to most people in the US, my team vs their team, meanwhile the pigs gorge themselves.

I've had sleepless nights over what I claim is a growing trend of the heads of whatever government agency or even the government itself going "wow this sucks, somebody should do something about this" and my current theory is that this is basically the logical endpoint of neoliberalism where you have a government whose assumed responsibility is literally 0 more than to provide a fair playing field for whatever 3 corporations that rule any given sector and nothing more. Basically just a figurehead.

I.e., the next logical step here is not that the government does literally anything about it, it's that it's also legal for every other railroad company to poison gas a town because it wouldn't be fair otherwise

Seems like the supposed political pendulum regresses towards the mean of corporations being in charge and calling all the important shots, with the government facilitating, protecting, and invading the enemies of, those interests. I think neoliberalism accomplishes what classic fascists could only dream of, and it does so much more efficiently. "My hands are tied" by the decisions made by the previous administration, but vote for us next time anyway or you're letting the bigots win.

        Stupid cyberpunk present.

At least in a cyberpunk setting, being able to ride a bike really well makes you cool.

To prep Pete for higher office. If Trump proved anything it is that these agencies run themselves and do not answer to the elected government.

Don't worry, we're going to do the :vote: thing all over again next year along with touting again the tagline "the most important election ever in the history of our lives!" ™️

Liberals have nothing to offer people. At least the chuds points out someone to blame (the wrong people, obviously) and promise to be mean to them. All liberals do is signalling a smug confidence in being smart and sensible for following the rules.

Joe Biden out there grabbing trains and - with the strength of half a dozen North Korean train-pullers - yanking them off the tracks.

I mean, this one’s a stretch, but I think he put him in that role knowing he was doomed to fail. Also tipping off journalists to Pete’s drop off point for his ride to work was totally a dark Brandon move

Between Pete and Kamala, Joe has really neutralized his political rivals. Is he a lot more canny than he seems? Are the people managing him expert political operators? Is he just falling face first into good luck?

What soft people these people are. Who's supposed to do something about shit like this, if not the secretary of transportation? You have a cudgel in your fists. Wield it.
