Also! 'Trump never gets headlines like this'? There was a 5 day discourse on a late night Twitter typo! Every silly little thing he did was multiple news cycles.

Assuming you're talking about the "Covfefe" tweet, that was the perfect tweet. It was as if for one beautiful moment @dril was president.

I was am addicted to hate watching MSNBC but I can't get a fix. I used to sometimes watch the news at the top of the hour because it's the most important stuff plus there are effectively no ads for me. Once the first ads started - I had my fix so I could leave. There's no way I'm watching a later part of the broadcast because there too many teaser segments plus there are way too many ads.

But every fucking A block has been The Trump Show for weeks now. It doesn't matter what hour or what day. It's TRUMP TRIAL / TRUMP TRIAL / TRUMP TRIAL / OTHER TRUMP NEWS / etc. I can't hate watch something that makes me want to spoon out my eyes with a grapefruit spoon.

Holy shit Dan Quayle was VP over thirty years ago for one term. Amongst many other crimes, Al Gore allowed an election to be stolen from under him, Dick Cheney pillaged Iraq and Afghanistan for personal gain and is a strong contender for one is the most evil people to hold the office, and Biden is actively enabling genocide, but no, let's focus in the doofus who made a relatively simple spelling mistake and then mostly went away.

I didn't know about any of this old people shit but reading his account of it he just read off of flash cards and then, with a group of other adults, told a kid he forgot a letter when the card read "potatoe"

he wasn't even spelling it, he just looked at the card and went with what it said, it's not like anybody asked him "how do you spell potato"

Is it me or does this headline make it sound like she used some sort of racial slur?

I wondered the same thing until I read the story.

Holy shit - what libs hold on to. I'd have to google this to even remember the context...

This is even more outrageous than that time she bought French cookware

Le Creuset, c'est fucking incroyable, hein?

    Edit

My damn curiosity got the better of me.

Is French copper cookware worth the big bucks? Chefs defend Vice President Kamala Harris’s recent Parisian purchases

Harris purchased items at E. Dehillerin, a legendary Paris culinary emporium, but the brand Le Creuset is drawing some knock-on attention

    Nov. 24, 2021

A report posted Tuesday on the Washington Free Beacon, a conservative website, indicated Harris’s purchases had totaled 516 euros, or about $580, and included a copper dish and a copper frying pan.

“I just want to buy a pot,” she told reporters during the Nov. 13 visit, a portion of which was shown on C-SPAN. In a response to a question, Harris added that she was shopping with Thanksgiving cooking in mind.

The visit led to suggestions that Harris was out of touch with the struggles of everyday Americans, as the Free Beacon connected its dots: “The vice-presidential shopping spree came as Americans stateside suffer from the worst inflation in three decades, putting strain on both consumers and small businesses.”

Nice cookware is expensive and worth it though. I mean that's really fucking expensive for ONE pot but I got a $500 stainless steel set for real cheap when i was working retail (it went clearance and I stacked discounts to llike 230 dollars) and they're so nice. I think unless I take a hammer to them they're going to be basically perfect forever

Enameled cast iron is pretty pricey, but it's good shit. It's got the durability of cast iron with the convenience of non-stick.

She went ahead and bought the Stanley cup of Dutch ovens. The one that's more of a status marker than a cooking pot.

Not even. She bought a regular Le Creuset 14 oz cocotte which is just a nice normal sub-$50 Dutch oven, not even one of the $300 ones. Currently on sale for $36 on the manufacturer website with free shipping. Not exactly extravagantly overpriced.

If you want to criticise something, go after the kind of overpriced $160 pan

          Show

Or better yet, the extremely overpriced matching serving bowl that costed $367

          Show

She basically just went on an average Wiilliams-Sonoma shopping trip, which is for upper middle-class suckers sure but like ultimately who gives a shit if someone pays double for some cookware?

Thanks for the info; Big L for me.

As for double price for cookware; I'm ngl if I'm experiencing unprecedented CoL, have no job or housing security, and have no prospects for the future (all of which are entirely out my control) I would be kinda mad if my VP decided to buy some bougie shit. After all, my money is paying for that lifestyle and not my or other's survival.

        Le Creuset

It's really nice looking stuff. I'm a super lazy cook so I could never justify buying any of it except for a Dutch oven. My neighbor gave me what's clearly a Le Creuset knockoff. I use it at least 4 times a week and it's perfectly fine. But I still found myself googling Le Creuset Dutch ovens anyway. The "sea salt" color looks nice to me...

I live in a place with a surprisingly high number of rich people. And - like most rich people - they sell great stuff at low prices if it has a tiny blemish or they just are bored with it. I'm going to see if I can make Le Creuset RSS-like searches at Craigslist (or wherever) that can be sent to my email inbox. It can't hurt to make such a search.

Yeah, a Le Creuset is actually legitimately nice, just kinda overpriced in the same way that a KitchenAid is, because they're mostly wedding gift type things. I think part of what fucks people up about them is that Le Creusets are basically always bought with a huge discount, received as a gift, or gotten secondhand. The MSRP is like $450, sure, so when you google it it seems like a massively expensive thing, but people usually pay like half of the MSRP and then a huge chunk people who actually have them either got them as a gift for a major life event, inherited it, or found it secondhand. And they last forever, I think my parents have one from the 1940s.

Don't pay $450, get one secondhand for like $50 or $60, it's awesome and is absolutely worth it.

Lodge's stuff is great too, way cheaper but basically the same in terms of quality. The one caveat is that if you're looking secondhand, they're almost the same price. Used Le Creuset stuff is usually like $60, and Lodge stuff is like $40ish, but it can be harder to find in my experience, especially if you're looking for a certain size or shape.

The enamel on Lodge's version is anecdotally a little bit less durable. But you can just avoid dropping it and it will be fine
